On Armistice Day yesterday Christchurch City Mayor Phil Mauger wrote to the President of “Mayors for Peace” (see letter below) calling for Mayors from around the world to “urgently” appeal for a ceasefire in Gaza and protection for Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
So why is it so hard, in the face of Israel’s genocidal slaughter of Palestinian civilians, for outgoing PM Chris Hipkins and incoming PM Christopher Luxon to call for a ceasefire?
We applaud the Christchruch mayor for his stance while our political leaders seem to tremble in terror at the prospect appealing for an end to genocide.
