While our collective attention is on the war crimes being perpetrated by Israel on Gaza and Putin’s ongoing war of aggression in the Ukraine, the world is ignoring the dangerous rise of White Christian Fascism in America with the election of Mike Johnson as Speaker.

Johnson is the kind of Handmaid’s Tale nightmare amalgamation of White Christian Nationalism and MAGA Fascism, his legacy of Hate has been decades in the making…

Mike Johnson symbolizes a new turn for the religious right

The arc of Rep. Mike Johnson’s career encapsulates the shifting priorities of the religious right in the era of Donald Trump.

During his first decades in political life, the newly elected House speaker was a vehement opponent of legal abortion and greater legal equality for LGBTQ people. That focus reflected the dominant public focus of religious conservatives on issues of sexuality and gender roles from the 1980s until Barack Obama’s presidency.

Without abandoning those views, Johnson in recent years has embraced key priorities of Trump’s MAGA movement, describing illegal immigration as “the true existential” threat to America’s future and leading congressional efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which he claimed suffered from “credible allegations of fraud and irregularity.”

…that someone as hateful as Mike Johnson has been elected Speaker is deeply alarming and just another step towards White Christian Fascism.

If Trump manages to get elected next year, the planet will go from bad to worse.

    • Yeah, I came across that this morning on The Guardian. The amazing thing is that the Heritage Foundation was behind it. Time was when they were a principled libertarian outfit: which maybe goes to show that when the poor folks start to get ‘uppity’, not all libertarians are as freedom-loving as they claim.

Watch the unity of hostility the Dems and GOP will show to any third party. The message is “this is our trough, keep out”.

      The vast majority of Americans haven’t the first clue of what actual “socialism” is, and that level of ignorance is displayed by both “sides” of politics in the US…
      The only choices there are in that country are far right, or ultra far right government.. Bernie Sanders was their last hope, and if he ever got elected, he would die at the hands of his opponents.. THAT is what the world is up against, and all you can do is make silly party political statements that place you in the “ignorant masses” clique? … I really did think you were smarter than that.

Anything less than being about money is certainly lessor to the U$A and that’s why the U$A is comfortable with bling, face lifts and synthetic opioid addicted homelessness. If the Bald Eagle is a symbol of U$A pride then surely the plucked chicken standing on top of it is a symbol of the truth.
      The sobering sight of a U$A in inevitable decline while it attracts any flea or louse sniffing out the smell of death for one last suck before the blood runs out is surely a sign of times a-changing. mike johnson is a desperate U$A flag bearer standing proudly, chest puffed out, on the bow of the last greedy shit barge floating and even then, it’s sinking stern first under the weight of its own self inflicted narcissism and arrogance.
      It should be no surprise then that gaby above is a supporter of a money fetishist who bends over for israel.
      Catastrophically though, when the U$A eventually goes belly up it’ll take the rest of the world with it just like all narcissistic sociopaths are known to do. Even in failure, they’ll insist they’re the best.

  5. MAGAism is shit scared of migrants because they know the numerical supremacy of older white religious fruitcake folks in the USA is virtually over, and will definitely be over in a decade or so.

    Also, according to main stream polls the majority of younger Americans actually support Abortion rights, gun control, Black Lives Matter and other causes–voter suppression, gerrymandering and turnout, remains the problem in kicking MAGA to the curb for good.

    “Fascism” is a term that should be used carefully, but if the “January 6th attempted Coup” did not convince you…what would?…the Yoo Ess Ayy is definitely headed down an Authoritarian path if the Republicans can get away with the 2024 Election. Maybe that Judge will send Mango Mussolini to the cells for a bit…to cool off…

  7. The Christian right are also the biggest supporters of apartheid israel. They believe in the ‘Ends of times’ and will be salivating at the prospect of war in the M.E. which has the potential to become nuclear. Israel has at its disposal nuclear armaments and has the Samson option to consider if they start to lose to Hamas which tactically they are as the world stand in solidarity with the Palestinians.
