The first test for the caretaker government – Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa

This morning PSNA sent the letter below to Prime Minister elect Christopher Luxon and caretaker Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

Since then the situation has worsened. Over 2,300 Palestinians now killed by Israeli bombs and over 9,000 injured – this is slaughter and not a peep from our elected representatives…

We don’t think the media should accept excuses for government silence. The slaughter and killing must be stopped.

Kia ora kōrua,

724 Palestinian children killed in the last few day – Urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza

Congratulations to you both on retaining your seats in parliament in yesterday’s election.

It’s clear there will be several weeks before the final makeup of parliament is decided but in the meantime a massive humanitarian crisis has unfolded in Gaza this week which demands New Zealand’s attention and action without delay.

We are urging party leaders to make a joint statement which condemns the commission of war crimes under the Fourth Geneva Convention which includes:

  • the killing of civilians
  • the use of “collective punishment” against civilians and the withholding of food and water from more than two million Palestinians in Gaza
  • the bombing of densely populated civilian areas in Gaza
  • the bombing of convoys of Palestinians fleeing to southern Gaza – as requested by the Israeli military

We urge you both, as the caretaker Prime Minister and Prime Minister elect to join together to condemn all war crimes in the Middle East without fear or favour and to demand the end of the humanitarian crisis for the Palestinian people which is unfolding before our eyes.

In the last few days the death toll of Palestinians children has climbed to 724 and in the last 48 hours Israeli occupation forces have killed seven Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank of Palestine.

New Zealand must speak out now, today. Between you both you have this country’s loudest voices. Please use them to speak up for all New Zealanders today.

Please don’t pass this on to officials for endless consideration. Please act now.

Ngā mihi ki a kōrua.

    • What’s outrageous, (apart for your support for the genocide in Gaza), is your support for a violent white supremacist far Right organisation.

Proud Boys are a dangerous ‘white supremacist’ group say US agencies
Law enforcement have shown concerns about the group’s menace to minority groups and police officers, and its conspiracy theories

….In a 22-page 2019 document titled Violent Extremism in Colorado: a Reference Guide for Law Enforcement, published by CIAC, the state’s division of homeland security, and the Colorado department of public safety, various incidents of violence involving the Proud Boys are discussed under the heading of White Supremacist Extremism.
On page 15 of the document, the group is discussed in terms of the “threat to Colorado” from white supremacist extremists, and the “concern that white supremacist extremists will continue attacking members of the community who threaten their belief of Caucasian superiority”….

  1. The New Zealand parliament and government, as a signatory to the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, must take every possible diplomatic, legal measure to prevent the genocide in Gaza.

    This should include:

Firstly; A diplomatic letter of protest delivered to the ambassador for Israel on behalf of the New Zealand government reminding the government of Israel of their responsibilities under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Secondly; Kenneth Keith, this country’s appointed legal counsel to the United Nations International Court of Justice in the Hague, be directed by our government to immediately file a declaration under article 63 of the UN Genocide Convention, against the state of Israel for a breach of the convention.
