This afternoon we spoke with the advocate of the 71 year-old lady violently assaulted in Albert Park.
On May 22nd the victim was advised by @nzpolice:
I am emailing to let you know that diversion has NOT been approved by the diversion officer due to the serious nature of the offence.
Yesterday -June 12th- the accused was scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court. At the last possible moment police advised the victim:
The defendant has been granted diversion and the hearing has been adjourned to allow him to complete his diversion. I have been advised as part of his diversion he will be asked to pay [the victim] $1,000, do counselling, complete community work, and to write an apology letter.
The victim has opposed diversion throughout the process and feels thoroughly let down by NZ Police, the Ministry of Justice, and Victim Support. She considers diversion to be an outright miscarriage of justice, that a conviction and the naming of her assailant ought to be the absolute minimum outcome.

Just an alternative view on the whole RNZ debacle, because I find the re-editing of content out of order (sorry EVANS – it is).
Since everybody nowdays seems to be an expert in media and what turns them on or off in the age of post truth, gorgeous self-promoting and egotistical specimens, often seeking something more than just their 15 mins of fame, inhabiting various bubbles they gravitate to that will reinforce their world view:
We know Thompson Reuters, BBC, CNN and a whole lot more are OF the “west”, AND being the media expert “consumers” we are, we know we have access to alternative views (i.e. not those OF the west).
Can we accept the RNZ re-editor changed a/many REUTERS report(s), and changed it/them according to his political beliefs – whether that or for whatever other reason there might be? Hopefully not for economic reasons – I’d like to think better of Him! although the more I know about Him, the more I am beginning to see Him as just another 30something egotistical and arrogant self-promoter who saw an opportunity.

Would a re-editing of an EVANS cartoon’s comments be acceptable changing its intent and putting it out in his name?
Would it be OK if there was a republishing and re-editing of one of Nicky Hager’s contributions be acceptable when put out in his name?
What about press releases from political parties or NGOs or whomever on a website you subscribe to IN the contributor’s name?
And then, what if Martyn Bradbury used that re-edited version from whatever site (such as RNZ) to provide us with analysis.
We may, or may not agree with Mick the Lad’s political stance, but it’s not really the point is it?

The concept of plagiarism aside, the guy has actually shat on some of his colleagues who do good work, let alone those who are having to run things on a shoestring. And it may well turn out that proper oversight was because of just that – insufficient oversight because of not enough people taking care of business due to funderings.

Sturgeon questioned for 7 hours after arrest
Nicola Sturgeon said she was shocked and “deeply distressed” after being arrested and questioned for SEVEN (my caps) hours by police investigating the Scottish National Party’s finances. The former first minister was detained as part of Operation Branchform, which was started by Police Scotland after it received multiple complaints over the use of about 600,000 Pounds (NZ12 million) in donations to the SNP to fight a second independence referendum.
