MEDIAWATCH: Rupert Murdoch’s Dr Frankenstein moment with Fox News is Succession level drama

The extraordinary manner in which Rupert Murdoch just slit the throat of Fox News is Succession level drama.

The HBO comedy drama that mimics the family of Murdoch would be stretched to try and comprehend the enormity of self mutilation the real Murdoch has caused his own creation…

Stunning Rupert Murdoch deposition leaves Fox News in a world of trouble

Media mogul’s admission in Dominion Systems election case that he let cable network broadcast falsehoods stuns observers

…the enormity of self inflicted damage is being explained away as hubris on Murdoch’s behalf, but I wonder if there isn’t a more Machiavellian motive to this Shakespearean tragedy.

Has Rupert had a Dr Frankenstein moment where he’s realised the ,monster he’s created has run amok?

Fox News is my favourite secret, watching their absurd and delusional take on the world is like watching someone who can’t help but bang their head against the wall every time they say something stupid.

It satisfies the masochist AND sadist in me.

Fox News matters because they are a larger news cable audience than all the other news channels combined!

What Rupert just admitted to in the Dominion Systems defamation case sets Fox News up to be smashed with fines and damages.

The lie Rupert profited from, that the election was stolen by Trump, has created a calcified    electorate who all believe the election was stolen meaning Republicans can’t win over the centre, and if they can’t win the centre, Democrats win and win and win.

Fox News is a cornerstone behemoth of American Right culture, the news that they lied about the Big Lie won’t really impact the audience as much as the Guardian article suggests because people who live in the Fox News world simply don’t read much else outside that news bubble, and because the bubble is so fucking huge in audience terms, you are surrounded by large numbers of people who also only view the world via Fox News.

Yes, they are losing some audience to more fringe right wing Qanon, Big Trump Lie feral right wing ‘news’ channels, but the audience will survive this shock while deeply weakening the power of Fox News itself which is what I think Murdoch is actually doing here.

By throwing Fox under the bus, Rupert weakens the Big Lie to allow a more moderate candidate through and weakens the power of Fox News as an organisation.

Hubris is an easy conclusion to make as to why Rupert has done what he has done here, but the cultural and political damage Trump caused has left a political landscape Republicans are doomed to lose as Qanon extremism Strats becoming an existential threat rather than an early manipulated popularity.

The mega elite and wealthy are now frightened by the damage Trump has caused and are doing what they can to start amputating parts of their empires for future gains.

By lining his own Frankenstein monster up for a billion dollar fine, it looks like Rupert is channeling Dr Frankenstein’s desperation to stop his creation rather than the arrogance of a Billionaire.

Although the arrogance of a Billionaire would be more delightful an outcome.

  1. The problem for Trump is that his advisors were going off on a wild goose chase in all directions, causing them to miss the actual enemy.

The election interference which caused Biden’s victory was the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story.

We now know the F.B.I. told the social media companies to censor the story. Other than the New York Post, the other newspapers and pundits all lied, and claimed without evidence it was some sort of Russian disinformation campaign.

Criticisms of the use of voting machines and mail-in ballots are all legitimate, but these should have been secondary.

Trump’s bungled response to the pandemic hurt him, but Biden was such a weak candidate that he would’ve been blown away if the allegations of corruption were widely publicised.

    • “We now know the F.B.I. told the social media companies to censor the story”

No we don’t. Unless by ‘we’ you are using it in the royal sense? Or perhaps you mean you and your best bud Elon.

      • Keep up, former Twitter executives have admitted under oath that they were told to ignore the Hunter Biden laptop story and run diversion, by saying it was a Russian ploy.

        • BG, Do you say the F.B.I. “told the former Twitter executives to ignore the laptop story and run diversion, by saying it was a Russian ploy”? But Reuters reported — “Former Twitter executives have told a Republican-led US House committee they made a mistake by blocking tweets about a laptop said to belong to President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, but added government officials were not involved. “The former Twitter executives said in subpoenaed testimony that they mistakenly believed the Post article contained hacked material and reversed their decision to limit its circulation on the social media platform within 24 hours.”

    • Criticism of mail in ballots are valid how? That they hurt Trumps ability to stop people voting? It’s classic Trump/US right wing bullshit to prevent people having their say. Even Republican lawmakers couldn’t lie based on actual evidence about the election being stolen. Thank goodness they had some sort of moral compass. Hunter Biden is not the President or running for office. Not sure how he compares to Trump.

Rupert Murdoch is a vile bastard, full stop.

    • Tell us all Kristoff, in your own words, what’s on H Biden’s laptop that is so devastating to his father’s administration?

Evidence that he watched pornography? – so do ~200+ million other Americans.

Evidence that he had a drug problem? – old news, sad news and a personal problem that has nothing to do with the governance of the USA.

Evidence that he sought to enrich himself by familial connections in the good old time-trodden apple-pie american tradition? – Oh, while you are at it tell us again how much Kushner got from Saudi Arabia and D J Trump whilst actual Govt. servants, rorted from foreign guests who sought favour by using his hotels, golf clubs or the scamming of his base for over 200 million dollars to fund his Big LIe. Yeah, yeah, I know, that’s whataboutism, the comparison isn’t valid because hell, Hunter Biden was acting as a private citizen the Trumps weren’t.

    • Did you mean to say that if more people believed talk back and social media instead of reliable evidence Trump might of had a chance of re-election? Apart from confirming that there is a wide range of abilities amoung the readers of this site you have not provided any sort of evidence that will change anyone’s opinions regarding Trump.

      • So what evidence did Trump have that wasn’t admitted in the multiple election fraud court cases that were thrown out? And what of the fraudulent Fox News comments?

  2. kristoff just admit it fox news are lying douches…get it off your chest son, you’ll feel better

  3. Martyn. You could apply the same school of thought to all msm and their oligarch owners.
Theyre all paid whores and abusers of the minds of the public.

“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”

    • But what of Fox News fraudulents?

I’m interested in the Fox story, stay on topic albeit you try to obfuscate to lesson your right wing bias.

      • fox themselves when up in court claim it’s just entertainment and shouldn’t be taken seriously…in a vane attempt to avoid prosecution

  4. Murdoch was free to speak so candidly because inside Fox they know they are going to lose the case. That has been reported from sources within Fox. The case is about as slam-dunky as you’ll ever see in terms of US defamation law and Fox’s lawyers will have told the Dirty Digger as much. It’s not really hubris in the sense that there is not much to lose in terms of the outcome of the case, and against that there is presumably a compelling other motive to say what he said. What that is, well you’re taking a good stab at it, but there are any number of other motives to pick from.

    • yeah nicko murdoch is a rat leaving a rapidly sinking ship…turning queens evidence is about his only option.

        • bob the last, he’ll retire, fox will be fined but nothing like their annual profit and tucker carlson will get a gig queueing down the dole office…..

in the meantime rupes only future is being a grass

  5. No media outlet get it all right.
Over the same period Fox’s opposition in the USA spread the Trump/Russia hoax, The Trump/Ukraine hoax, that the lab leak theory was a lie, and that Hunters laptop was Russian disinformation. All of which was picked up by NZ media and spread here.

    • And you listened to it, still believe their lies, even after there is an admission.
Fuck I simply give up on how people comment on this site with such ignorance. Fox owner admits his guilt, arrogant Andrew still attempts to blame anyone but America’s right wing news channel.

  6. bob the last, they are liars (by their own admission they are entertainment not news)their pay cheques are reliant on them conforming to the corporate script of lies…hence they are paid liars
