After convincing Maureen Pugh of climate change, can Luxon talk to Federated Farmers, Fonterra and Groundswell next?

National MP Maureen Pugh’s about-turn on climate change after Christopher Luxon intervenes

National MP Maureen Pugh has done an abrupt about-turn on apparent scepticism about whether humans contributed to climate change after a chat with her boss, leader Christopher Luxon.

In a statement this afternoon, Pugh said she accepted the scientific consensus that human-induced climate change was real and that it was a factor in extreme weather such as Cyclone Gabrielle.

“I regret that my comments this morning were unclear and will have led some to think I am questioning the causes of climate change. That is not my position.”

“We are seeing the impact of climate change in the cyclone that has devastated so much of New Zealand.”

Isn’t that amazing, when she started the day she didn’t believe in climate change, after a wee word from her boss about how limited her future was if she didn’t stop insulting all those who had been decimated by the storms exacerbated by climate change, and hey presto, she isn’t a dumb cow anymore and now believes in the science!

For every right wing climate denier out there, it’s been a difficult day, but for the rest of us it’s hilarious.

Now can Luxon talk to Federated Farmers, Fonterra, Groundswell and ZB and tell them climate change is real as well?

  1. You know exactly why she had a change of heart Martyn. The media would of hounded her, camped outside her house, followed her to the ends of the earth until she repented.

But an MP celebrating cannibalism on the other hand gets a free pass completely…

No the NZ isn’t biased at all

    • Congrats, you just had every Maori in the room roll their eyes…

Quick, now that you have our attention, perhaps a quick joke about Polynesians and KFC?

    • Who are you Donald Trump? Sorry a MP being paid for out of public money basically says, in her capacity as a MP, the earth is flat and you make it about the media? Nice deflection

      • Stop picking on BG, it’s not right to pick on him when he is so much like Pugh, fucking useless to use Bridges own words, not the media’s, Bridges.

      • Ok live one week without using fossil-based products or putting carbon in the air.

If burning fossil fuel is death to mankind, put up or shut up.

        • Acknowledging that burning fossil fuels, as we are now, is unsustainable and needs to be addressed through proper planning is completely different to saying it’s not even a problem at all. Same stupid bullshit argument. “Oh you didn’t trek for six months to make it to the climate conference, what a hypocrite”. The rationale of a f’ing two year old.

  2. She hasn’t done an abrupt turn – she’s been told to shut up. Showing how cowardly Luxon is in the face of a media pile-on.

In fact, she was right to say “show me the evidence” because while there’s some evidence of the effect of higher CO2 levels in the atmosphere, this has not translated into significant warming yet.

    • Andrew which universe are you on. Maureen is a science denier from way back she made comments about Covid along the same lines — the science is not in and was the second to last MP to be vaccinated –Simeone Brown being the last.

      • …and with hindsight the narrative you were all sold regarding vaccines was largely a lie.

        Points of fact:
        > They didn’t protect you from infection.
        > They didn’t protect you from transmission.
        > By the time we got them, they were largely ineffective against the current variant.
        > The mRNA boosters cause real harm. From mild forms of pericarditis to death. There is now absolute medical proof of death caused by these ‘vaccines’. I have two friends who were hospitalized by them.
        > Vitamin D pills would have given you much improved resistance but no pharma company was making money on that, so the media suppressed that information.

OK so what were you saying about Climate Change? LOL

    • Mate it’s a paid for media distraction from the lawlessness that’s going on in the Hawkes Bay.

Hipkins phoned up his media lovelies and told them he’s taking too much flak on the looting front, can you distract the public for a while.

The shadow of Clare Currens little meetings go a long way back.

    • Luxon showing courage and sound leadership.
An honest politician which is refreshing after more than 5 years of deception by Labour.

    • define significant? are you going to wait until the humidity kills you and go – oh now that’s significant.

Anyone can look at the NASA and NSIDC websites to see the obvious trend.

  3. I’m waiting for someone to say our lack of household recycling was responsible for a rain event. The other extreme is to blame a rain event on the Nordstream environmental terrorism.

  4. “Now can Luxon talk to Federated Farmers, Fonterra, Groundswell and ZB and tell them climate change is real as well?”
And so luxon should since they’re all extensions, perhaps more tentacles, of the National Party anyway. Federated Farmers is really a clique of old inbred pro Natzo biscuit nibblers, Fonterra is the mafia and ZB is… what IS ZB? A fascist-capitalist propaganda machine?
What is it about morons and science? Morons believe in their own brain-fart misinformation over science? If science, particularly today’s extremely well informed science says yep, human made global warming, I’d tend to go with that.
However: I met an older fellow 15 or so years ago who was a highly qualified sciency guy who said that the sun was not only quite spotty, more so than usual, but it was getting hotter.
    NASA.
“The amount of solar energy Earth receives has followed the Sun’s natural 11-year cycle of small ups and downs with no net increase since the 1950s. Over the same period, global temperature has risen markedly. It is therefore extremely unlikely that the Sun has caused the observed global temperature warming trend over the past half-century. ”
    So there goes that theory.
Yep. We’ve fucked it up. But how do we differentiate between a few cows on a paddock in Canterbury and 10 million people living in Bangkok. Or Jakarta ! OMG, you been to Jakarta? There are an uncountable number of people there and the place was so polluted I couldn’t leave the hotel for long for fear of suffocating in pollutions. I stayed there for several weeks and got my mind blown. ( Naughty. I know what you’re thinking. ) It took a week or two to blow all the toxic snot out of my sinuses. Black snot. Nasty stuff. The air smelled of chemicals, the waterways were dead and oily. The sun shone through a permanent yellow haze… I’d see people living in the streets one day then dead where they sat the next. It was a literal Hellscape. Then, a few years later I spent time in Phenom Penh in Cambodia. There are only 3-4 million people there give or take but OMG! Add that to the rest of South East Asia, India, the Middle East and Eastern Europe and you’d soon be begging to sniff a humble cow fart.
We should really focus on protecting what we have.

  5. Maybe she could be asked her opinions on ; Gravity, Is the earth round (sphere) or flat, Did man land on the moon in 1969 or is it a hoax…

    • It would be interesting to see the computer modelling on gravity….Would they be as accurate as data on climate Corp…???…I mean climate change…

      • Right Bob. As opposed to your man crush Luxon who believes an all powerful presence blessed him with seven houses and riches, and presumably made a teeny tiny camel or a f’ing big needle for him to enter the penthouse suite in heaven.

  6. It’s more than obvious people are only entitled to an opinion if it’s first approved by the TDB and it’s loyal followers.

  7. Maureen Pugh an outlier? How many more in the Natz with her views? Doesn’t go well for the Natz going forward to the election. The last election was won for Labour and Team Jacinda by the swing voters. So it will be this time, not by prosing to keep the team of 5 million safe but seeing to be DOING something about global warming and climate. Doing something about the current perisomal crisis for a good many also. The former it might be bugger all in the bigger picture, more of the same, some strategic virtue signalilng at worst, but one has be seen to walk the talk. Shouting denial won’t win votes.

  8. it’s all immaterial…yes unusual weather events are now the new normal…but how much did slash add to the severity of the current floods….emissions we are a small player but we can do something about the pollution from the forestry industry…right now.

  9. I think Maureen P is trying to do a Paula Bennett – seems to have spruced herself up.
Climate change is just a backdrop for such people.

  10. “about whether humans contributed to climate change” – a clear case of the wriiter of article not believing in man-made climate change.
