The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. So I reckon the two appointed councillors from Auckland Council, who were appointed by the Governing Body to the Emergency management Services Committee as chair Stewart and deputy chair Leonie should be held accountable for the 3hrs+ delay in notifying the mayor to declare a State of Emergency because they fucked off from CD HQ.
One for a photo op with the caretaker deputy PM and the other to check out what’s happening on facebook instead of staying with all the officials at CDHQ!

They were MIA at a crucial time and were solely responsible to notify the mayor, but they didnt because they were AWOL-MIA! What a pair of wankas!

    • Well the administration isn’t automatically trustworthy. Mayor Brown if he was not notified and was proceeding on the old expectations and statements of how the new systems were more effective and efficient, should perhaps be reprimanded not villified.

Perhaps he should be given the chance to shape up or ship out. Disillusion with our ruling hegemony will gradually descend on previous believers and perhaps they will gather themselves for a new great leap forward whether that sounds like planned communism – which may have something going for it after all.

  2. Here is a new idea I think.https://www.rnz.co.nz/programmes/the-detail/story/2018876153/can-a-sponge-city-really-prevent-flooding
It’s about uncovering natural streams that have been tar-sealed and paved over, and replanting natives that will absorb the water, says Tim Welch, who teaches urban planning at Auckland University and is co-director of the Future Cities Research Hub.
But it’s also about moving people and their homes from the riskiest places.
Auckland is behind other parts of the world where so-called ‘sponge cities’ have been created as a solution to flooding. At least 30 cities in China have been redeveloped in this way, likewise cities in the US and in Singapore, Welch says

I also draw attention to the work being done in Oz by the Mulloon Institute about conserving rain water in dry environments which prevents extremes between dry and wet which changes soil structure apparently. Mainly applies there to farms so far.

    • Further I seem to remember reading that changes to Auckland Super Shitty were carried out after looking at how Brisbane (housing on known flood plains) expanded and turned itself from a supposed hick city to a metropolis. It was regarded as a success that the rightards wanted to follow in the steps of. So don’t worry about practicalities and externalities I think. The clarion call, ‘We are going to have a world-class city’ – wasn’t that said a number of times, and the devil take the hindmost at the back of their minds.

Let’s go straight to Gotham City? Well was it Batman and Robin or Spiderman the hero/s that turned out to rescue the hapless residents? Not a silly comparison, I feel that most of the capitalists are living at comic book life, at an elevated level. But in real life who can lead, and are there enough residents clear in their minds about a good way forward, not bemused and whinging about what should have been done whenever and who is at fault?

Just thinking. The Jewish people have to take responsibility to work for peace with the people of Palestine both with their military around the outside of an open plaza where all could see then, then after introductions and shaking hands they would go to an undercover area where drones could not shoot them.

There should be seasoned journalists (not much pepper) there and discussions about some basic things which were on a list to be talked through to establish areas of agreement. After discussions to make firm decisions they would require a three-quarter majority for agreement to have it entered as initial agreement to be modified/ and ratified later., along
with a short explanation of why it was important to each side, and what it was intended to achieve. Also a signed agreement that it had been made in good faith as the best idea at that time.

That would be a way to get a good start. The procedure would be accepted to be on the line of the old saying ‘Faint heart never won fair lady’, ie let us start and do something, as we can, talk past the long-standing problems and disagreements, and agree to meet again on a set date in a month and go through same process. The fair lady would be of course be the meeting of minds and hands, with some flexibility, and each step down by one side would be matched by another from the other side of some sort.

It’s imaginary, but talks have been held in the past and fallen through and criticisms made of rigidity in the leaders. I think they have head their time, the people suffer, and it reflects badly on both sides standing in the world. I think that the matter has settled into that old situation as here: Upton Sinclair — ‘It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.’ So this simple song gives a lead to a way forward, ‘Time for a Cool Change’ by Little River Band.

  4. This caught my eye!
    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/483566/lines-company-challenges-transpower-over-427-percent-hike-in-transmission-charges
One of the country’s smallest electricity lines companies is going to court to challenge a fourfold increase in transmission costs, which it says will damage the region economically.
Buller Electricity has filed for a judicial review after being told by national grid operator Transpower its transmission charges will rise 427 percent from April.
The company said it has around 4850 residential and business customers and they face rises of at least 20 percent.
The increase is part of the price resetting done by Transpower and the Electricity Authority to cover the cost of running and developing the national power grid.

IIRR Reefton down that way, was the first place in NZ to have electric street lights. I think there was a gold rush on then and the business types running NZ now don’t know their ‘a from their e’ and are full of it, nostalgia I think.
