  1. Santa Maria! The gift that keeps on giving.

…Surprise gave way to shock as allegations about his inappropriate behaviour in the newsroom surfaced. Soon Santamaria’s former colleagues at Al Jazeera, where he had worked for 16 years, began speaking out.

A BBC investigation – drawing on interviews with several current and former employees at Al Jazeera, and documentary evidence of inappropriate messages and staff complaints – has found several allegations of sexual harassment against Santamaria in the broadcaster’s Doha newsroom. Some say he wasn’t the only one.

  2. It appears that NZ is in an emergency with no properly trustworthy functioning government acting for the people’s good. How can we get started on a need footing – like before WW2 – Dig for Victory etc. Can we have a few posts on this ideas, and perhaps some outstanding efforts so far? That is unless we are concerned that some misconduct may happen and put the kibosh on the ideas. Or provide some half-baked political adoptee to spout the right lines with sound and fury, run with the idea, spoil citizen efforts, and then drop it.

I thought some quotes I put on 14/10 were good but this one really applies the pressure to do something otherwise it’s just a talkfest. I think we understand the political problems well enough now.

Metropolitan Police report: Hundreds of officers getting away with misconduct

When I saw Metropolitan Police I thought this was about our city police.
Why can’t news reports state clearly the location that the information relates to. It seems they want to lead with a punchy heading as most important. I guess this could just have had UK inserted – not a big space needed for that.

  4. Looking at Jane Kelsey’s 1999 book Reclaiming the Future:
The power of transnational enterprises intensifies the impact of large-scale foreign direct investment. The stronger their foothold in a country, the greater their potential to constrain a state’s capacity to act.

Twenty-three years later we see this clearly. What else did she say back then which we didn’t think hard enough about? I have a lot to read as she wrote much in this one book. We did have marches to indicate our concerns about selling us up the river but with people like Trevor Mallard and Grant Robertson getting everything they wanted, it would have been disruptive for their plans to have changed tack. Of course Helen Clark and John Key from 2008 both likd the exotic foreign menu compared to cheerios on the beach.

  5. Reacting to every latest immediate matter is useful to the Right. The only pol matter that matters is climate change. Disgusted on that count.

You’re a good-hearted bloke Martyn, and your post on that would get zeroish comments.

Too funny. Our end. I’m old enough to not think it’s personal. My nephs and nieces for some reason aren’t interested.

Fun is the main thing about us.
