  1. Laws that punish law-breakers. A vicious circle of non-compliance is set up and bereved people as victims and still a useless government system proceeds in its uncaring and actually stupid way.

This dope has been in trouble. He causes deaths. Is there any effort to remedy his defects whatever they are – re-education doesn’t just have to have a Chinese connotation – we need to use the term in NZ and practice the effort otherwise our freedoms are worth nothing.

…He was disqualified from driving for four years and ordered to pay $2000 to the victims’ families.

Manoah had earlier pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of Charlene Hong Hue Phuong and Fay Lesley Leota, and two counts of dangerous driving causing injury following a crash on State Highway 1 on 23 October last year….

Going into last week’s hearing they had known he was ineligible for imprisonment or home detention because of his age, yet they were still concerned he would not complete the sentence.
The crash happened just three days after Manoah was discharged from earlier Youth Court proceedings.
He had previously been warned that his manner of driving could lead to a fatal crash and he was on a learner’s licence when it happened.

  2. I just lerv RNZ, but Christ!!! the ‘Panel’ with err, ah, err, Wal-er-ah-Ace Chap-err-ahhh Man (Staccato to his mates) is catering to the diverse demographic – based on some outsourced meerket survey
Problem is, it’s got its own list of rent-a-voices and it still has a list of persona nons including a Bradbury.
Background noise to drown out the quiet and every crass bullshit advertisement on most other channels.
I guess we’ve got to be grateful for the little we’ve got though because it’s highly likely the merger is going to kill what’s left of it.

  3. While we worry about recycling on Earth, the worriers here are not helped by the warriors out there, whether in Ukraine or space, creating more problems and more junk. We promise you they might thunder, nothing but blood, sweat and tears.

Airing the latest space problem. We still have air I think.

An estimated 130 million objects smaller than 1cm and 34,000 larger than 10cm are travelling in orbit at speeds of thousands of kilometres per hour, according to the European Space Agency (ESA). A report presented at this year’s European conference on space debris suggests the amount of space junk could increase 50-fold by 2100.

While many fragments of space junk are small, they travel so fast their impact has enough energy to disable a satellite or cause significant damage to space stations.

  4. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/474923/families-almost-come-to-blows-after-murderer-sentenced-for-killing-mother-of-two
Great here are details of a murder that will titillate all of us ghouls getting satisfaction at the news that other people are making a bloody hash of life, and leaving us feeling less charitable, more protective and glad that we aren’t like them.

As a society we could be seeking active ways to communicate with families and help them with active support when wanted, education, funding some project for their area that will be paid for in stages as carried out by the whole committed family, along with counselling etc. And really care individually by getting each member to name a small goal to be achieved to make things better, and helping them to achieve the goal.

Hopeless is the way that NZ is heading. Government doesn’t care because they have sold themselves to business interests, and measure our progress by well-shaped stats that are as nicely directed as the beams from the linear accelerator radiation on my chest (after cancer surgery), bounced off lead wedges to hit the right spot. Tricky that was. And the drawing up of confusing stats, concealing, obfuscating, ordinary people’s status, is an arcane art I say.

Recover hope and bring a lightness into people’s lives and personal strength that doesn’t come from physically or verbally attacking someone, bottles and cans, or some dangerous chemical that wouldn’t be allowed by Health and Safety. It’s called ‘ pastoral care’ and doesn’t need to come from a pastor of religion; we live in a secular society that claims freedom so let’s give ourselves the freedom to care about each other, as without that, strangely we seems to hate ourselves. Let this last para stick in your heads and prick you because we don’t seem to notice that we only seem to know how to feed hate, and that’s not going to have a good outcome. Lou Reed sings a little thoughtful phrase ‘ You’re going to reap just what you sow’. You want it to be better here do you? So think, do something positive for others and yourself and don’t just spit out criticisms. Is it true, logical, that nothing comes from nothing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wxI4KK9ZYo

    Pastoral care – Wikipedia

Definition — Pastoral care is an ancient model of emotional, social and spiritual support that can be found in all cultures and traditions.

  5. The 17/9 OM is full of armchair generals passing judgment on the Russian- Ukraine war with a Polish position. So I’ll put up this where people who keep an eye on our country and its immediate prospects might look. This is Jonathan Pie on the sad cat dump that is the UK., post Boris, continuing Boris, and new/old Liz Truss who has learned the capitalist handbook by heart and probably has the nicest ankles of all the contenders. Jonathan (Tom) I think said that 200,000 Cons. elected her to pass judgment on the variable worth of the 70 million citizens in UK. e&oe Let’s have a look at the great western market and skeleton of a country. Eek it seems to have an echo down here in the s. hemisphere.

  6. What’s this? I think we had better have a go, some good change might arise out of it.
It is on about voting age. (I don’t think that young people who don’t use condoms shouldn’t be alloweed to vote, also masks!)

The panel is running a series of public meetings, both in-person and virtual, in October ahead of submissions closing on 14 November.
