Dear Sleepy Hobbits of Muddle NuZilind – The Climate Crisis is here, the Shire is burning

Right now almost 30% of Pakistan has been flooded over the last month with 1000 killed, 33 million impacted and 300 000 homes destroyed. Meanwhile China is experiencing the most extreme weather event in history with a record breaking heat wave so intense that it is shutting down industry with immediate impacts on the global economy. In the Ukraine, the impact of Putin’s war has barely begun.

In NZ we are bitching about Te Reo on a chocolate wrapper, a rogue Labour MP, arresting ram raiding teens and arguing over which right wing fantacist we should arrest next.

I just feel that the intensity of the geopolitical external shockwaves about to hit us, might be a tad larger than our ability to comprehend.

Folks, I don’t wanna suggest that we are focusing on petty meaningless shit but, we are focusing on petty meaningless shit.

Now here’s Tom with the weather.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. With regard to Pakistan people fail to realize you can’t increase the population by over double and a nominal increase of 120 million and not expect this will have an impact on climate and weather events. I’m guessing A LOT of trees and other natural features that used to trap water are no longer there, coupled with larger towns closer to flood plains and rivers.

As with China I believe you will find they dammed the hell out of the Yangtze that have effected significantly the amount of water that passes downstream and out to the sea. Sure a drought but again you can’t transform the economy and the environment over a 40 year cycle and not expect some impact.

As for New Zimbabwe – I see the feckless are restless and can’t wait to spill the beans on what Big Sam did on his contiki. Meanwhile we have inter-agency corruption to stop Dumb lives matter journalists entering the country all the while giving dead people a hundred bucks so they can enjoy a Big Mac combo and a packet of Holidays in Heaven. FMD.

We are living in a retarded version of Orwell’s 1984.

    • Frank the t. Flew over Pakistan about 10 years ago, and it is still vast areas of rural wilderness, more so than India where the night lights doubled as dusk came creeping in. In and outside urban areas, everyday living can still be a stark mix of modernity and medievalism with a philosophical ethos different from us.

    • In Pakistan precipitation in some regions was 600 percent higher than average, and no amount of missing features that were used to trap water can cope with that or explain why there is excess rain. China has the most severe drought on record so there are bigger atmospheric problems than a few local events.
Martyn can join the dots to see the problems coming & your inability to see past your nose to wider worldwide problems suggests that you live in a selfish bubble.

      • So an extra 120 million people over 30 years in a country where it is either desert or river plain won’t contribute to flooding. LOL. 5th Form (yes I’m that old) Geography taught you that if you cut down all the trees on the area surrounding a river will bring more water into the fold.

In fairness Year 11 Geography probably now teaches how Maui caught and fished the North Island…….

We were told in the 1990’s Venice would sink and be uninhabitable by the early 2000s.

I’m not saying climate change is not happening however by sensationalizing and exaggerating it we miss the point.

        • Yes Frank thanks for your considered comments.
Whilst I’m not a climate change denier I’m an optimist believing the speed at which technology moves , exponentially, we will find solutions.

    • Pakistan is responsible for 1% of the CO2 in the atmosphere. Yet they are taking the brunt of the catastrophe.

      • Few leaps in logic there Gargar. It’s nobodies fault but you can’t ignore population growth and it’s impact on the environment and then scream it’s everyone else’s fault.

    • @ F the T Meh. Blaming the underdog is a tactical side-step by those whom do the exploiting. ” I didn’t do it. They did it. Wasn’t me. I just bank the money the poor in fucked-world countries earn for me. And they’re lucky to have jobs. The reason they’re lucky to have jobs is because abusers like me have tailor made the systems they used to have free access to, which now cost money for them to access and it just so happens that I have ‘investments’ in what were once public assets. People who unwittingly become enslaved to the systems of neoliberalism, no matter where they are, only to discover they’re longer human beings, they’re slaves. Slaves who do what they’re fucking told. Aye roger and Da Boys? Aye Boys? You boys, that’s who.
Doesn’t that sound familiar? Lets ask roger? roger douglas, yoo hoo? Doesn’t that sound familiar to you roger? Rooooooger? Can you hear me from under that mountain of money? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Roger? Fucked-world people are trapped within a psychological paradox by highly educated, well connected West World psychopaths . Have children/work hard. Overpopulate / Use up valuable earth materials / pollute the natural the environment. Did I just describe elon musk-rat, bung eye bezos, creepy larry page, the rothschild family, and all the other freak-show escapee’s out and or under there?
It’s a funny old thing. Whenever the shit hits the fan we all blame the victims.

      • Usually enjoy your comments countryboy but not on this occasion which I know won’t concern you an iota.

      • Usually enjoy your comments countryboy but not on this occasion which I know won’t concern you an iota.

      • Country boy – let’s start with the government and the public service that believe it is justifiable to plane bureaucrats around the country for team building. Rules for thee not me by the elite.

No point blaming Roger Douglas if Poor Man’s Gordon Brown follows the same path. Hard to call out your side huh?

  2. Who other then then the useless fucks of twitter really gives a shit about the Whitakerse? heck we have people in this country that can’t even afford a block of wittakers chocolate.
Good grief, talk about manufactured outrage by those that have yet to understand what really is coming their way.
Have you had a look at Nelson lately? What is gonna happen to the 1200 odd people without homes? oh, they gonna get warehoused and forgotten in some rundown cheap motel forever, just as we did with the guys in Rotorua, Tauranga, and elsewhere. But then, i guess the people comfortable enough in their lifes to be bitching about how some people consider the Whittakers PR Te Reo stunt just that, a PR stunt, have yet to lose their house and have yet to live for a year + in some run down motel with no job prospects and a bit of drug dealing, prostitution and wife/child bashing going on next door.

Fuck me. But this is a first world problem for people who have their heads up their asses.

    A good laugh!!!

How to Be a Woke White Person
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHSVjmO4iJY

Being a woke white person has become mandatory for many Labour and Green government members as well as woke media around the world.

The dopamine from being woke and virtue signalling on social media, means there is no time for real change and gritty environment, worker and human rights anymore!

For those who are triggered by the above, you can now view the overly-woke support group.

  4. “When the world ended it wasn’t a surprise. We all knew the world was going to end. What did surprise us was how quickly it ended. We thought we were in the middle of so much but suddenly there was nothing left to be in the middle of.”

  7. We’ll be right. It’s the burgeoning urban populations that might feel a bit iffy after a week to a month or two.
If I was smart I’d be looking for a wee piece of land up a hill a bit beside a busy little creek coming out of a southern mountain range. But not too isolated. Fuck that.
Check out this film. Z for Zachariah. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_for_Zachariah_(film)
Once you get past the fact that there’s no muscles, tits, car chases and explosions in it… settle in and enjoy it for its beautiful, nuanced and poetic narrative.
Margot Robbie was brilliant, as was her dog. Chiwetel had a well educated yet desperate kind of benign psychopathy about his character while Chris Pine did a brilliant job of being well beyond his usual stereo-types. It was like they’d re-evolved into a more genteel version of the urban human.
The film’s set primarily in a post apocalyptic valley where the nuclear storms rode by over the hills missing Margot’s character sheltering in an old house deep down on Port Levy. She’d been there for years thinking she was alone on her known planet until Chiwetel’s character arrives one day towing a survival cart. Soon after, Chris Pine’s character turns up also.
Who knew that life would come to imitate art in Port Levy on the Canterbury Peninsula.

  8. I wondered how many Labour voters were in the huge chain of single-person cars this morning on Tamaki drive while I cruised in the T2 lane, observing partially-full buses and a handful of cyclists.

    • Plenty – unfortunately for many its rules for thee not me. Check to see how much carbon is swallowed up on plane-in meetings around NZ when zoom has shown it is perfectly fine to have these meetings without face-to-face meetings.

  9. Don’t know if hiring a black Mercedes to drive 50 meters across the road to Parliament sets a good example for National voters. Neither does $100,000 donations. Walking or cycling would have been the intelligent thing to do.

  10. Well Whittaker’s is often on sale for $4 at places Countdown for some reason. Actually you can find a 1kg block of cheese for $10 too. Sure it’s not tasty but f*cked if I am going to spend $18.

Speaking of highly processed I see Fonterra have invested in a company trying to grow milk protein. It’s only a matter of time.

  11. we are so proud of exporting powdered milk, isn’t formula detrimental to and sometimes fatal for kids in the 3rd world….just a vague memory.

  12. wasn’t it something to do with low nutritional value and being marketed particularly advertised in the 3rd world as all babies need…now that is dredged from the back drawers of my memory so might be off the mark.

  13. Unfortunately, for most of these disasters, like our current wet weather, some idiot in the MSN will reveal that it’s the worst in X years. More unfortunately most don’t realize that means it’s happened before. The drought in Europe revealing carvings saying ‘if you can see this the shit has hit the fan’ is not evidence of global warning, only evidence that it’s happened before.
As for the chocolate hitting the fan, this fake furore will pale into insignificance against the truly masterful attempt by our kindly government to rip off even more money from KiwiSaver.
