  1. Acts policies will see us end up like Sri Lanka with no money to pay for public health and other much needed amenities. And who will pay the price the same people who are suffering now.
Act also want to drop our employment standard by bringing in a bigger pool of cheap workers another backwards step for the low paid in our country. National and Act are both big talkers on the increased cost of living but their policies don’t match there rhetoric of improving NZers standards of living.

    • Sri Lanka and Greece should get together and a journalist do a long from piece on the way that small countries can be seduced or misled into unwise financial adventures or even just any venture.

In the one hand despair – how can we operate as a country effectively in constantly difficult conditions.
On the other hand – perhaps this contains a message – that we should be trying to manage things locally so things can work for us at a local level when strings attaching us tenuously, to Wellington, are cut.

  3. Thinkthought: Is New Zealand/Aotearoa needing to revert to the Land of the Long White Cloud that receives messages and news and management methods for all our cultures including business and administration, rarely as printed or clearly written missives in a sealed bottle? Too many sweeping ideas that are not thought through and discussed with everyone can lead to tragic disasters as in Cambodia affected by Pol Pot who under another name learned as a student his approach to Marx in France.

(Vaguely related to Pol Pot’s experience is the theme of Colin Cotterill’s novels mainly set in Laos.)

David Cohen tells how awful it is to try and fly so be warned. Even getting through on the phone, an old technology and relatively cheap way of communication seems beyond the high fliers in management amazing.
The question is why would you fly if it is going to be like this. Presumably he had to go. David Cohen writes about travel – let him do all the hard work and you watch from home. I suggest that this should be a new way of exploring the world, employ someone to do it for you and you be in verbal as well as visual contact so you can ask to have a closer look at the carvings, view, handsome waiter/ess etc. What about that? Or one of your group or family go and send it all back to the others – sort of like the Truman Show.

Are we going to have to put up with this situation? Are the people concerned going to defend themselves on the basis that they are ‘depraved because they are deprived’. Society will settle down into a slump of generations where ‘people who hate people are the unluckiest people in the world’ to paraphrase a song that Barbara Streisand made popular.
From West Side Story explaining some teenage delinquents who are ‘troubled’:

This child is depraved on account of he ain’t had a normal home
Hey, I’m depraved on account I’m deprived!
So take him to a headshrinker)

    My father is a bastard
    My ma’s an S.O.B.
    My grandpa’s always plastered
    My grandma pushes tea
    My sister wears a mustache
    My brother wears a dress!
    Goodness Gracious!
    That’s why I’m a mess!

When children are brought up roughly by people who grew up with parents who learned little social control from their parents and probably no moral leadership or role modelling., that lack will show in their behaviour,
