Kamahl Santamaria saga: TVNZ news boss Paul Yurisich on leave during investigation
The head of news and current affairs at TVNZ is on leave during an investigation into the hiring of former Breakfast host Kamahl Santamaria.
Paul Yurisich has been in the spotlight for the past week after Santamaria quit abruptly just 32 days into the job.
It is understood that Yurisich recruited Santamaria from Al Jazeera, where the pair also worked together.
Santamaria’s departure comes after allegations emerged of his inappropriate conduct with women.

Glorified quarter of a million dollar autocue readers are leaking to other media organisations, have the audacity to believe they make hiring decisions at the State Broadcaster WHILE destroying the career and reputation of any journalist or news boss who cross them.
They are complaining about gender pay gaps and are angry they are being told to be professional.
It is an astounding meltdown at the country most woke news room (after RNZ, Stuff and The Spinoff).
With a news room so gleefully willing to destroy itself for puritanical micro aggression policing, do we dare risk pouring vast resource into empowering this news room even further with the TVNZ/RNZ merger?

I’d like to see a transparent pay gap review. They may find that most ‘sex’ differences are not between male female but between mothers and fathers and employment sectors. Want to fix most of the ‘gender’ pay gap? incentivise fathers to take career breaks to look after kids and pay care workers more. They may also find that most of the racial pay gap is a class issue.

TVNZ is crap. Someone had to say it. It’s more concerned with ‘reflecting nz society’ than being a great TV company. From breakfast down to evening comedy, it’s embarrassing. Unless your standards are so low that you think is awesome. When you’re banking on Matty and Jenny and Corbett and Henwood on pulling the crowds, then it’s a lost cause. Summary: it’s free, and that’s all it’s got.

As I think Tui pointed out the case of Santamaria should not be playing out in a public forum.
I am not sure what the definition of inappropriate is, when it comes to treatment of coworkers, but your definition of ‘lewd’ Martyn seems to include groping and having your tackle exposed (at least on film) so clearly the bar is pretty low in your idea of a working environment.

Our regional newspapers have relevant information TVNZ does not.

Selling off state house land for private housing, when there is a huge state house waiting list, huge emergency housing waiting list, and the woke have doubled the population of those in poverty in NZ to compete with the existing people in poverty.

When a ” Stuff ” reporter covering a story regarding the rise in food prices uses the word ” sucks ” to describe a disappointing observation you know that any professionalism that we used to expect and get with regards to our media has been replaced with this kind of infantile reporting.

and the appalling dropping of ‘national modifiers’ there is no such thing as the ‘afganistan president’, the afgani or afgan president yes and as for the France football team…just because we have no ‘national modifier’ ‘kiwi’ being closest in actual use…and a damn sight more user friendly than some ‘new zealandish’ or Aotearoaish BUT in english nearly every country does have ‘national modifiers’….if an alleged journalist don’t know them or can’t use them maybe they should consider career options.
