BREAKING: Mass State House Privatisation green-lit by Labour

Un-fucking-believable…

Sale of the century: 55-60% of Auckland’s large-scale state land to be sold for private ownership

It’s the sale of the century: 230ha to 270ha of Auckland public or state house land is being sold to private or sharemarket-listed developers, to build free-market homes across the city.

…at a time when we are hitting a new high of 27,234 waiting on housing emergency lists, the Government is green lighting an enormous state housing privatisation campaign to sell properties to corporate landlords with the promise that the market will somehow save us.

Labour entered Parliament with 5000 on the emergency housing list, it’s now 27, 234.

Their Housing response in the budget was a joke.

Housing

  • $221m for Affordable Housing Fund
  • $1b to support public and transitional housing
  • $355m for redesigning emergency housing system
  • $75m for Homelessness Action Plan

John Minto breaks that down

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

The $221m for Affordable Housing Fund is to get the children of the middle class into their first home. The other three amounts are for state housing and social housing providers and if taken together ($1.43b) would build just 5,000 homes – in practice a hell of a lot less.

…so the solution now is selling 270ha of public land to private interests to enable corporate landlords.

That’s Labour’s solution?

A mass privatisation agenda to fund state housing???

This is so deplorable, where the fuck are the Ministers? And why the fuck aren’t they belong grilled?

When the Left understands what they’ve done here, there will be an eruption of anger.

I smell the mediocrity of Megan Woods!

  1. Thatcherism.

In 1996, the Ministry of Defence decided to sell off its housing stock. The financier Guy Hands bought it up in a deal that would make his investors billions – and have catastrophic consequences for both the military and the taxpayer
    https://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/apr/25/mod-privatise-military-housing-disaster-guy-hands

How’s the NZ business profit led rents such as $1200 p/w for a motel room working out for the woke who wanted it, renters and Labeen?

  2. Yet another monumental stuff up by this dreadful Labour Government.
Megan Woods must be an embarrassment to Labour albeit cabinet must have signed this off.
Yet more betrayal of their supporters.

  3. once again Woods and the LINO prove to have no loyalty to NZ but only their bankrupt neo-lib ideology

still I expect their directorships/consultancies will come through after the election…so that’s nice for them.

    …fuckin disgraceful really.

    • Could there be a more perfect juxtaposition of narcissism? The leader goes on the American celebrity talk show circuit, is the tinsel darling of that collapsing state. But she glistens, is endlessly photographed and filmed, smiling smiling.

In New Zealand, the embarrassing little hick town that elected her into her five minutes of fame, she who emotes caring so very deeply on camera, with the Labour Party, literally instigated to care for and lift up the poor – cold bloodedly exploit the plight of the homeless to flog off more of the nation’s few remaining treasures to the fabulously rich. And for the perfect rendering of this diagnostic tableau, the asset they are stripping is the state housing estate, one of the first priorities of that founding Labour party’s actual care – providing decent homes for the poor.

  4. Meghan Woods is like the puppy that shits on your floor then looks at you excitedly and wags its tale. She has absolutely no comprehension of the mess she has made.

    • She is doing exactly as she is told, and St. Jacinda and her merry dude Grant Robertson sure don’t give a shit about the mess they make. These are the best and the brightest that the Labour Party could find in the whole country, and pretty much all of the non penis people in that party are quota non penis people. They don’t do unless they are told to.

      • the truly sad thing for NZ is that the nats/act are intellectual dwarfs….the only real question is….would you like extra shit in your sandwich sir?

        • so much fear of two parties who are currently in opposition.
You guys need a new Pandemic, cause fearmongering about N or A after 5 years of L is just not gonna work anymore. LOL

  5. John Minto has said as much.

What the fuck is it with Labour? Asset sales have made us all poorer but it’s like the 1980’s never left us. I thought we’d moved beyond that but disappointingly, no.

National or Labour. They’re are virtually indistinguishable. Both lost. Both out of date.

  6. It is diabolical alright, but to be expected from the majority neo Blairite NZ Labour Caucus.

The Kiwibuild scheme was flawed–being aimed at middle class rather than working class or homeless people–and it never happened substantially because developers and suppliers basically went on strike and refused to cooperate with the Govt. with the required price caps.

Developers want open slather and their way only, and now this cowardly MAJORITY MMP Govt. has capitulated to them. Shameful.

What have nearly 40,000 existing home owners in Auckland done? They own surplus homes which they keep empty.

Generation Rent & Student loan need to wake up and get organised for 2023–and no, sheepshaggers, I do not mean Naztos–they will make things even worse.

    • As Kiwibuild involving selling newbuilds to first home buyers it could never reach any large scale – not unless they assisted buyers with a government equity share.

They could have also sold to baby boomers downsizing and those moving up from flats/apartments to a first family home.

Anything to get to the sort of scale required for factory construction and maybe foreign partners.

  7. Megan is just a mouth piece, this is government policy courtesy of the Labour Party led by dear Jacinda. Who has a single majority and can do the fuck they want to do. Blaming Meghan for doing what they are told to do by their bosses Jacinda and Grant is again sacrificing a underling with no power to protect the fuckwittery that comes from Jacinda and Grant.. This, all of this is done with approval from them.

    • Yes RB you are correct this would have been sanctioned by Ardern and Robinson if indeed not initiated by them.
      Disgraceful.

    • you should know bratty, I voz only obeying orders, It was vartime, I voz a soldier fighting for mein country….
wasn’t accepted as a defence at nuremburg nor should it be in megans case.
      she’s an adult.

      • hope that you feel better now that you got that lingering unhappiness that resides in your heart out into the open, – it is Labour that is selling the Land. The Labour Party, with a full Majority, is selling State Housing land to private properties. Keep that in mind when you next vote Labour again.
        .

  8. Bhahhahahhahaha.

Poor Man’s Gordon Brown has run out of money and Beetroot has said no more money printing. 50% of businesses are behind on their PAYE and GST payments. Doesn’t matter if your accounts say you earned tax dollars if you can’t collect it! Grunter needs to raid the pantry.

When the truth comes out how poorly Robber(tson) has managed the economy the majority and even the left will welcome Te Reo and his collection of beltway retards and failed middle management ideologues. Rimmer will be licking his chops.

In other news Woke Coster is moments away from saying he’s sorry for being a man……….

  9. It’s Key’s fault, it’s 9yrs of neglect…it’s Nationals fault…would be worse under National/Act…

There, sorted out the excuses for Tiger Mountain/Bert/Gagarin/Wheel et al….just cut and paste your fav ‘excuse’. Thought I’d be kind and save you the time!

St Jacinda and her Govt are never to blame, only been 5yrs at the helm.

    • @ im right…
Reading you trying to defend, indeed promote, loathsome narcissistic sociopaths like jonky and his cronies is as pathetic as it is embarrassing. Sorry, but someone had to tell you. In any other country where the natzo’s shenanigans might be tried on jonky would be considered a no Class, carpet bagging criminal. Oh, and let’s not forget a riche bully pervert. He lasciviously and repeatedly yanked on that young woman waiter’s pony tail, in front of his wife… Real class that was. In all democratic politics where the dysfunctional dominant politic is counter weighted by decency, funny little men like jonky usually end up in prison as do their close knit sycophantic adherents who are almost always found guilty of having been bought.

      • Yeah, and under Jacinda we are promoting radical double mastectomies so that mentally ill girls can pretend to be a boy. For the boys its sacrificing the dick in the name of gender woo woo. Thanks to Labour and Green. Woot woot.
Neither one of them is good company for decent people.
They are both full blown wankers who will leave the country worse for wear while they themselves are insulated.
Let me put it this way CB, they will both be warm, dry and well fed tonight when going to bed – dear Jacinda as much as dear John. The same can not be said of thousands of kiwis for whom this government is as shite as was the last one, only difference this time the shit is red, last time it was blue.

      • Ohhh did hit a nerve there CB? Looks like you are upset because I didn’t include your name in my post?
I didn’t include your name as I rarely, if ever, read your innane fucking ramblings as they are well…ramblings, I’m sure I’m not the only one on here that sees your name at top of a posting and moves onto the next one below, life is too short to try and read the far too long diatribes you post!
So don’t feel so bad I missed your name off in my earlier post, it was nothing personal…it’s just you don’t warrant a mention.

        • Great as times get harder the animals turn on each other, teeth bared. I’m Right just cut this crap and put your own ramblings to give us some ideas of the best way to move now. Most of us are agreed it is all unsatisfactory and most people are just holding on hoping for a sane, rational government but …. We don’t want a mini Trump or a mini Johnson. Is there any other country that we could emulate?? What principles, practices? Could we get some new views – would Yannis Varoufakis come here and talk to us? He has done some hard thinking since Greece went down. Maybe he could help.

  10. ” When the Left understands what they’ve done here, there will be an eruption of anger ”

If only but I don’t think the mouse’s squeak will be heard or even acknowledged after all this is not a LABOUR government rather a collection of individuals who hide behind the name Labour to continue the neo liberal’s campaign of economic terror.

At least the Nasty Natz /ACT coalition aren’t so dishonest because this privatisation is straight out of their playbook.

I think anger has been replaced with despair and acceptance that the political parties in this country offer no meaningful alternative to the status quo.

    • I seriously think when the Nats get in unless some miracle stops them then all the middle class voters will be back on the streets at protests.

  11. I wouldn’t be surprised if the chair of Panuku Auckland Council is in the middle of this ‘deal?’

That bloody Paul Majurey? Who is wrapping up his week in the HRC hearing with JT over another dodgy deal involving Panuku and now probably $900k+ ratepayer funded legal cost battle.

Hesc setting up the sleepy government or he’s in cahoots with them to fettle the ground for a massive vulture capitalist investor management fund like Blackstone Group to swoop in later to become the Overlordy Landlord if they’re not already an investor??

    • Yea that Paul Majurey is a tricky peice of work.
Aren’t there like 350 registered companies he owns or is director of?
How would one find the time…
I do wonder if they all got the wage subsidy and the rest of it though..
      Maybe some Provincial Growth Funds?
Or $30M a year to chop down trees in Auckland, even no trees were chopped down since 2019?
      Nice.
Maybe an investigative journalist could find out.
      Hahaha haha!

Actually to be fair there are journalists investigating and discovering,
Getting it published widely or pushed on TV?.. . Different story.

      • A quick search of his name at the NZ Companies Office site will pop up with all the businesses he’s involved with would be a start I guess?

  12. “This is so deplorable, where the fuck are the Ministers? And why the fuck aren’t they belong grilled?”
Aw c’mon..? You know where they are and why they’re not being grilled.
The ministers are on Zoom calls with their developer mates and they’re not being grilled because there’s no one left to do the grilling.
One day soon, the hyper riche foreigner are going to roll up here and proudly pronounce ” Hey honey, look whad I bought cha !? I nice little country. All we have to do now is get in the pest exterminators. ”
Labour can do this because they don’t care what we think and they don’t care what we think because we’re fucked and they know that because they fucked us.
The neoliberal ( fascist-capitalists ) Natzoactlabourthegreen@maori party is on only one vector, and it’s not for us lot. The maelstrom that is AO/NZ’s architecturally designed false economy is now whirling out of control, as those same architects designed it to do, and all that can be done now is to grab what you can and run for it.
Invercargill, Dunedin and the surrounding districts will flourish, as they’re beginning to do, and Auckland will become ( has become. ) a sweaty ghetto and a gang land battle field.

  13. But but but….Jacinda cares right Martyn?
I can’t think of a SINGLE thing that Adern and her bunch of imbeciles has improved.
But hey, when National comes in there will be no talk of 6 years of neglect, it will be all National’s fault.

I have no problem people pointing out National’s many many failings, but oh my god the ability to ignore the reality that the current Labour government are just sooo sooo much worse.

    • Yes and lets not forget the first Ardern govt’s lie “We couldnt do anything about housing because NZ First stopped us”

      • Nah her first lie was ‘I never lie’…
        TV debate 2017.

Rang alarm bells for me, as any adult would know that can’t be a true statement, and kids are taught to be wary of people saying things like that aren’t they?

(okay she didn’t say that exactly, but that was definitely the impression made)

    • Well said Jays agree completely. I have said it before on this blog after nine years National stopped listening am but this lot stopedcagter the first year They relied on National infighting and their covid handling to get back into power but National are back and covid has lost its fear factor.

      • I’m not sure National are “back”. I think you have a barely competent bunch of losers being made to look golden by the most incompetent Government in NZ history.
I weep for the lack of options.
We are in a similar position to the yanks in 2016.

  14. Immigration exodus is all NZ can expect.

Kids today are so uneducated and bubble-ised that we cant expect any true people power to make a difference. Climate and micro agressions they’ll march for but economy and the future of the country isnt in their wheelhouse.

Unless we have a change away from our current political system (Ending career politicians) then there is no hope for NZ.

I keep envisaging a 5 year term where we vote for elected functional boards (or perhaps regional boards) who are voted for their expertise and are then responsible for developing, maintaining and rolling out strategy in that area for both short term and long term. Every 5 or 6 years we get to have a say about who will be on the boards and which strategies or work programmes NZers see as most important. Every Board member gets a performance score for their term in terms of meeting key objectives or similar so that when we vote we get a clearer idea of who is delivering and what they are bringing to the table. On a more macro level, NZ’s get to pick via referenda or other process which items are top of the pile for the next period like say affordable housing and education etc.

There has to be a better way than what we have now which I would describe as slow death. I dont much want to go but my kids and I all have Aussie citizenship so we keep looking at it.

  15. Could be that they intend selling it off because Housing New Zealand have been spectacularly incapable of managing the properties under their control?
    Just a thought…

    • and a private version would work better, andrew? overseas evidence ?(not ideology–evidence) says no
except for northern europian/nordic countries where it’s regulated and regulators have actual teeth.

  16. SERIOUSLY!!!
Greens, te MP, and any other potential coalition partners (even such as Maff Ranji’s) need to start stating what their red lines and bottom lines will be. At least within the next 6 months

I’m not holding my breath – with the expectation that things are going to have to get worse before they get better (which I’ve been harping on about – probably since the last time I visited TS = must be knocking on over 2 years by now)

I used to wonder whether it was arrogance, or muppetry, or public service capture and various other things that have caused Labour to go all tits up. I now know it’s a combination of all of the above.

Sorry @ Bert, (and I appreciate your cheer leading), but it is getting to be serious shit, 18 or so months out

And btw – people ARE watching, AND remembering, AND experiencing – over things like supermarket reform and all that little Garbak franchisee shit that goes with it; the promises made and not delivered over energy and oil companies STILL playing silly bugger; Oranga Tamariki and Health.

Grant is not the man he professes to be (as but one example), and pretty much all of them now under the capture of senior public service self-survival interest have shown they’re going to play the game till the last man down. (MORE FUCKING FOOL THEM if their aim is to stay in power and represent the electorates’ interests) – which it no longer is apparently
Jesus – let’s not even start on Faaaaaafoi, or Woods or a few others when there are one or two in the background that could shit all over the pair of them

    FUCK it’s pathetic!

  17. ” I think anger has been replaced with despair and acceptance that the political parties in this country offer no meaningful alternative to the status quo ”

Just like in 1916 its time for a new movement that as it’s core principle is to oppose the neo liberal stranglehold and represent the many who have no voice , authority or hope in Aotearoa New Zealand.

  18. Absolutely disgusting. These beasts, these traitors in the mold of Lange, deserve nothing but hatred.

But always remember. Despite the lies of the neoliberal dogs, what is once undone can ALWAYS be made whole.

Sell our assets that belong to the working man, belong to the nation, sell them for nothing? We can take them back for nothing as well, to hell with the ‘private property’ of profiteers. And try the culprits for their crimes against the people.

  19. “That’s Labour’s solution?”
    Incredible isn’t it.
It is just too hard for them to think of any good solutions to the problem. Or more likely they have some better solutions, but are totally incapable of implementing them. They don’t even know HOw they might implement them.

Totally incompetent governance. Incompetent, inexperienced, unfocused, poor thinking, distracted management (re TDB article ‘how not to rebuild a hospital),
Idealogical, impractical, totally lacking real world experience or knowledge, weak, unfair, racist, non supportive of the working family…
Apart from that though, they’re great!

    Here’s another example same process.
160,000 people in Aotearoa immigrants on temporary work visas, or work visas…
Incompetent decision making and implementation leads to a crisis for the work visa holders and the Immigration Department.
Labour’s ‘solution’? Panic, put it in the too hard basket as they can’t think of a solution, let alone have any knowledge of how make it work, so…
Give all 160,000 a residence visa!
    Yay. Problem solved.

    Hahaha hahaha.
    That’s what happened isn’t it?

A couple of the lovely lady staff (one Indian one Chinese) at my kids’ daycare were very happy about that. And they deserved too. Good, nice people.

But jeez Wayne. That’s their solution?

Mind you, we did ‘elect’ (37% 2017?) an inexperienced leader with nil real world experience and nil experience manage a highly complex organisation of interlinked highly complex organisations…
Most or a lot of her colleagues same.

  20. Such an announcement will impact on the market. Land for development prices should fall, but developers would perceive greater risk of being exposed (higher cost of finance, slower construction and less guarantee of making a profit on sale).

It’s as if they are developing a bi-partisan policy for National to administer – the opportunity for land banking (corporate and private) and flipping is obvious.

But the ultimate message is the lack of any ambition to increase the state house stock by building.

We had better hope they plan to buy up 25,000 homes to cull the waiting list, or the 2017-2023/26? government will go down as one with a less than impressive performance in housing.
