  1. An engineer – a dire situation – lots of great options for discussion here going into the century. But it seems that the thing is urgent, discussion must be condensed. Stopping the sea, with a giant hand. Canute knew he couldn’t do it, so in modern times can we succeed? Look to the Dutch; I think one of their engineers helped Chinese emperor way back – though not sure. So get to it you practical informed people and see that sensible cost-effective projects are carried out sooner rather than too later.

In the Netherlands, floating houses are already common. This could be very useful in Lambton Harbour, where floating walkways could provide access to the central city.

    Holding back the water

  2. Wellington, sister city with Venice? The renewed library be Wellington’s St Marks – the water be catered for? At times of high tides or storms where possible, Handels Water Music and lumiere productions be done – we have lighting artists who have done great things in Nelson. *Piki Mai a few years ago – outstanding. Make Wellington the capital that rose beyond disasters!

India has gone big on them also.

  3. Further thinking about Wellington. Recently there was an exhibition of van Gogh works light-flooded onto city walls I think. But I feel it was in Covid time which would have limited the crowds that would otherwise have come to that city. I couldn’t go and was sad about that. But perhaps this sort of thing could be regular. We must keep things bubbling along in NZ to balance the downsides, Whakaari et al.
