Carville blames ‘stupid wokeness’ for Democratic losses

Democratic political strategist James Carville blamed his party’s recent losses and weak performance in state elections on “stupid wokeness” on Wednesday.

“PBS NewsHour” host Judy Woodruff asked Carville what went wrong for the Democratic Party in the Virginia gubernatorial race in which Republican Glenn Youngkin beat former Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

“What went wrong is just stupid wokeness. Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Wash. I mean, this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools. I mean that — people see that,” Carville said.

“It’s just really — has a suppressive effect all across the country on Democrats. Some of these people need to go to a ‘woke’ detox center or something,” he added. “They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that.”

Carville said that suburbanites in Virginia and New Jersey “pulled away” from such “wokeness.” He pointed out that Youngkin never ran any ads against President Biden and suggested that the Republican candidate had simply allowed Democrats to “pull the pin and watch the grenade go off.”

“We got to change this and not be about changing dictionaries and change laws,” Carville said. “These faculty lounge people that sit around mulling about I don’t know what. … They’re not working.”

For Virgina to swing so hard against Biden who took it by 10points only a year ago is extremely concerning for a race seen as the bellwether for mid terms.

Biden’s inability to get anything done and the disaster of the Afghanistan collapse are mixing with the alienating inclusion via exclusion woke activists.

Carville  is critical of defund the Police and wanting to remove Abraham Lincoln’s name from schools because he argues most people are more concerned with economics than social justice mantras that come across as cult like to the middle voter.

The woke can’t help but alienate because they are more focused on micro aggression policing trigger free safe spaces than actual debate.

This backlash because of culture war is ripe for next years Hate Speech fiasco.

The threshold for what the NZ Twitterati consider hate speech and what everyone else does will be light years apart and being told these woke puritans will gain the power to have you investigated by the Police for something you posted on Facebook 3 years ago will see ACT gain more and more recruits.

This is where ACT will level and pull ahead of National.

The woke can’t help but be toxic and alienating, unfortunately they will have an enormous platform to share their cancellation fantasies to a terrified NZ.

Labour really need to pull the pin on this nonsense now or risk handing ACT even more ammunition than the woke have!

  1. There is the Republican truckie that spent $153 on his campaign and unseated the Democrat New Jersey senate president
https://notthebee.com/article/update-the-gop-trucker-who-spent-153-on-his-campaign-just-unseated-the-democrat-nj-senate-president-?fbclid=IwAR2eLzWg7sO2UQ2jg7sKSToSm4Cypc3cg2Pe0tpf5sR-0X9bqsS7l5BNM identity politics, Critical Race Theory and woke ideology are pure cancer.
Before we even get to hate speech, 3 waters and the bunch of other racially divisive he puapua anti democracy bills forced on us are going to split the country.
    Good luck with that.

  2. Have always thought that cartoon should read…
“Now they have social networking….introduce them to identity politics”

  3. The social contract doesn’t cover all humans even though it should so to cover the outliers of the social contract maybe disabled people who can’t follow the social contract. In that case, in an economic sense, outliers are covered over all.

As far as I can tell woke should mean a belonging to a rational species.

The pushback to that point, I would say is let’s say that there is a global pandemic of some kind that pushes humanity back to the intellect of a disabled person then it would be okay to remove the non aggression pact.

Just to be clear I’m not arguing for full moral rights, just the right not to be killed.

  4. Alienate the feminists and natal women, people with petrol cars, farmers and business owners, anyone not Maori, trample on free speech, democratic and civil rights and tell your kid she’s racist scum for being born white sure sounds like a winning formula and sure to appeal to your target demographic – a carless, unemployed Maori transgender.

    • What I think you’ve done there is a combination of the ability to reciprocate the social contract by deleting any reference to Maori. The group over all can do this but, but outliers such as Maori can not. And now you want Maori to take care of your rights even though you can not do that for yourself.

      • Sorry Sam, it’s far from clear but if I understand that correctly you’re wrong. I simply expect the government to respect my rights and the rights of all of us.

The current government have decided to expend what remains of their political capital on deeply divisive policies directly at odds with the interests and instincts of the reasonable majority and thereby sowing the seeds for an ignominious and richly deserved defeat.

        • You are being deceptive. Maori have occupied Aotearoa for at least 10 generations, non Maori for at best 5 generations. That the government would care for Maori rights has forced you to respond with lies and deceptions just to protect the ill gotten gains of non Maori and it hurts your the temples on your forehead just thinking about having to pay back even a fraction of the fraudulent behaviour commited by pakeha colonisers and con artists. 🙂

          • It’s not about me Sam.
If you think that the people, the descendants of “Pakeha colonisers” or more recent arrivals (or many Maori and part Maori come to that) are comfortable with preferential, institutionalised and structural race based programmes you need to get out more. Or, perhaps, widen your circle of acquaintances.
If the government think that the people are willing to vote against their own interests and moral instincts perhaps they need to get out more as well. Get out for a very long time perhaps.

  5. Also in today’s NY Times on the subject of the Dems forgetting their roots and losing office: -“I used to advise mayors, you can be as visionary as you want, but make sure you take out the garbage and fill the potholes,” Said David Axlerod, who oversaw messaging for Barack Obama.

  6. I think you are all missing the point here. This was a referendum on Biden (or Brandon if you want). He has sat back and been neither there or here with managing the various factions within the Democrats all the while making error after error with the border, Afghanistan, Covid mandates, inflation, supply chain shortages etc. He (or more specifically his minders) has also poked his oar into state politics (Texas/Florida) which is generally a no no in a federalist system. He has effectively gifted the previous swing state of Florida to the Republicans.

It is becoming more and more clearer that the man doesn’t have a grasp of his mental facilities anymore with the Democrats hoping to hold onto 2022 which regardless will be a bloodbath.

With regards to New Zealand. The major strategic error with going wokeborg is that it magnifies issues such as He Pua Pua, 3 waters, Hate Speech etc. Clarke waited till late in the third term and even then was calculated whereas Ardern has used the absolute majority as a justification for what is taking into account the country’s recent consensus politics, radical social and treaty policy positions. At a time when approx. half the country is in lockdown and mentally looking for someone to blame this is an enforced error as much as shepherding these policies in during 2020 (when Jacinda saved 80,000 lives blah blah) was strategic brilliance.

Times change in both the US and the New Zealand examples yet the underlings in DC and Wellington appear tone deaf to changes in the environment. The only difference is the GOP has adapted whereas National hasn’t.

    • I’m liking what you say frank. Maybe we have an advantage over the good ole US in that they have in essence 52 countries when it comes to getting anything done. Aus has had this issue to a lesser degree. The reality is here Labour don’t have that problem but are trying their best to turn the family of 5 million into a full noise bun fight. Takes special skills to do that.

      • At this juncture they are surviving by not having a functioning opposition like the Torries in the UK. That is why the decent has been so stark in the US.

In regards to the US Biden has both the Senate and the house ATM. As did Trump for the first 2 years of his term. Much like Trump his minders haven’t been able to get everyone signing from the same hymm sheet and nothing has passed. I’d dare suggest in 2024 the GOP will fix this error indeed they are flushing out probable dissidents prior to 2022.

  7. yes the woke are a right royal pain in the rear parts, but the inability of the dems like are own LINOs to effect any change no matter how piddling is the real issue….

as my wise old northern family matriarch aunty Em’ used to say
    ‘fine words butter no parsnips’

if the neo-libs wish to retain their grip on the lolly jar they’d better address that or go under.

  8. Desperate Democrats Decide on Global Conflict to Deflect from Deplorable Domestic Failures…
Of it all comes crashing down, start a war

  9. I think things are unraveling in the US, with woke gender ideology leading to legal cases and counter cases about who gets to use bathrooms at school and play in womens sports, win womens scholarships etc.

Biden of course Carrie’s a significant amount of the responsibility for this

As for NZ, I have always voted labour, but now my vote is up for grabs. I am appalled by the gender self ID bill, the sneaky conversion practices bill, that many have been sucked into thinking it’s getting rid of men in white coats places electrodes on gay peoples head. It’s not. That doesn’t happen anymore. It a weapon gender activists will use to punish anyone who doesn’t take the affirmative approach with trans people. It is aimed at parents, religious people and counsellors (who are not covered by the health practitioners act.

  11. Absolutely spot on!

Also why the conservatives bet Labour in the UK. Labour has too much worry about racism, anti semitism, identity issues, not enough on practical reality for people who are trying to improve their lives within predatory capitalism.

UK Labour’s internal response being investigations on whether Corbyn hates Jews. Nobody believes or can relate to it, apart from the woke red guards.

  12. Meth and Dysfunctional NZ businesses take over NZ,

while the woke, are worrying about religious pamphlets and taking control of water when they make everything worse with their new ideas, aka housing has been a disaster with their woke business new laws.

Example of woke housing, woke save renters from that hideous NZ landlord saving for their retirement with a large 3 bedroom house with big garden they rent out. Instead woke Labeen will demolish that house and put up a McMansion with the taxpayers paying subsidies and the rate payers paying subsidies to the developer demolishing the housing, so that a new first homebuyer from overseas can buy (165,000 coming next year), and get tax benefits for it as it’s a new build! Yipee!

Can’t afford a house anymore on circa 1984 wages in NZ? NO problem, we have a one room emergency hotel for your family of 5, at triple the private rental prices that our taxes pay for, and with 7 dysfunctional families living there too! Who cares about a murder, Warm, dry, housing , solved, as increasingly fewer renters have a house to rent!

Meanwhile, it’s all good for some!

Some might feel that it’s first world problems not being able to find a decent 24 million dollar mansion so you have to demolish and start your new McMansion from scratch, when your staff are being bought into NZ on minimum wages and subsidised by WFF wages and accomodation subsidies, but it’s a real issue in NZ!!!

We need more construction workers and more farm hands for the mansion owners! 165,000 of them, next year!

  13. Read an interesting article that said yes workless played a part, but the biggest reason the Democrats lost in Virginia was that they have done absolutely nothing for workers. Clinton and Obama were responsible for a raft of free trade agreements that destroyed the working then middle classes in most of the US and did nothing to help them cope with this massive change. It’s destroyed the social and economic fabric of heartland US (similar to what happened here in the 80’s/90’s). Once you destroy this part of society, people look for answers and enter a spiral of despair because things get progressively worse, so they turn to demagogs like Trump and other righties.

The same thing happened in Nazi Germany before WWII, and is happening now in the US. On all socio-economic indicators the US is becoming a failed-state – suicide from despair, majority population will die with debt, shrinking middle class, massive wealth disparity, no access to healthcare or income support, entrenched poverty (i.e. can’t pull yourself out of it because there is no longer equality of opportunity to get ahead) etc.

This is all predictable and all due to predatory capitalism (in past 20 years healthcare costs up 1000%, education costs up 1000%, savings negative) that has now turned on everyone not a member of the 0.1%.
