Cough – just as TDB predicted, National using fear of woke cancel culture

Well, well, well.

What do we have here then…

‘Wokester’, cancel culture issue a winner for National, says party pollster

Simon Bridges might not have made many friends in Wellington when he accused Police Commissioner Andy Coster of being a “wokester” last month but some in the party think the issue was a winner and played into wider concerns about cancel culture.

At a meeting of about 60 National Party members, including some MPs, party pollster David Farrar, of Curia Market Research, told MPs that he saw the party winning support by taking a stand on “cancel culture” issues.

…Cough – just as TDB predicted, National is using fear of woke cancel culture.

As someone who likes to credit myself with the wide spread use of the word ‘woke’ as a derisive term aimed at identity politics activists in NZ, I feel we need an urgent definition of the term.

As a class lefty, I see identity as an important personal journey that leads you to politics but feel Identity Politics becomes terribly limited in gaining the democratic 51% as its most shrill advocates in the cancel culture landscape manage to make progress as alienating as a cold cup of vomit.

Class solidarity can gain 51%, Identity Politics risks pure temple over broad-church and you get endless schisms and little to show for it.

For most ultra woke activists, their starting point is all white people are racist, every man is a rapist and anyone supporting free speech is a uniform wearing Nazi.

There’s not much intellectual wriggle room there.

That virtue-signalling-middle-class-micro-aggression-policing-identifiably-Green-Party-militant-bike-riding-vegan-condescending-supporting-pronoun-Spinoff-subscriber in your social media feed screaming endlessly at you in the ubiquitous world of social media certainly thinks they are shouting truth to power, unfortunately it all ends up as a cacophony of self righteous struggle sessions alienating the vast chunk of voters who just want to know how they are paying for the roof over their heads and the food on their tables.

So that’s ‘Woke’. Identity Politics activists suffering the narcism of small difference and subjective triggering.

We see it in the criminalisation of the misuse of pronouns and hate speech debate, we see it in the gerrymandering of the sexual assault laws to ensure guilt, we see it in the ban on gay conversion therapy (that NO ONE in the Greens can even quantify) and we see it daily in our social media feeds as woke Green activists and fourth wave feminists continue their woke lynch mobs cancelling anyone who disagrees with them.

It’s a culture war space ACT have managed to exploit far better than National have, but as the Hate Speech issue heats up, expect them both to feast on the shockwave of middle NZ as they suddenly appreciate that the woke marsupial court will decide if you have sinned and cast out.

This is why when the Left win, they must champion economic justice above social justice so that solidarity doesn’t fracture.

Jan Logie is alleged to have stormed off the set of Q+A because Jack had the temerity to articulate an opinion she didn’t agree with. That level of arrogance will be free ammunition for National and ACT.

This current debacle in Australia’s Parliament over the claims of a rape committed 30 years ago is seeing the woke cancel culture at its worst. In the faith based feminism of today, one must ‘B-E-L-I-E-V-E’ and if you don’t you are a rapist. Due process is a heteronormative white cis male privilege and the evidential threshold is whatever someone says on social media. What the Australia ME TOO example shows us is that the fear was never that there would be a witch hunt (Harvey Weinstein proved there were monsters to hunt) but that it would lead to Salam witch trials.

I’ve been warning the identity politics left for some time that their middle class doctrine and punitive mantras will alienate more than they attract.

Let’s see if I’m right.

Every aspect of our existence is monetarised for big data to sell us more stuff we can’t afford. We are alienated and anesthetized by a consumer culture that keeps us neurotic and disconnected. Our work, our existence, every move we make are all built to suck money to a minority class that sits above us while under neoliberalism, globalization, financialization, and automation, our existence as individuals has only become more disposable on a burning planet and all the while the woke dilute any resistance with a thousand bullshit distractions and cancellations.

Here’s Tom with the weather.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. Social justice is morphing into proto-fascism… economic justice is the only left-wing game in town…

  2. National is also on the same side as the unions in asking for staff to receive 100% of wages paid direct which will win favour from another group of those on the fence re their vote. Those effected by the debacle re the house market could be ripe for the picking as Labour is seen to do nothing and make the situation worse. The covid card will not be worth playing as we see the message getting more confusing . If Robinson ignores the benefituries in the next budget baring in mind the government has more money in it coffers than they could have hoped for 6 months ago could lead to another group being lost to another party.

    • Cancel culture is real, and trying to redefine it as any political thing that you don’t like does no one any favours.
It is best defined as targeting of private individuals and/or censorship by elites in the name of social justice.

Debates over election rules is not cancel culture, that’s normal politics.
Criticising MPs for things they say is not cancel culture.

Censoring Dr Seuss is cancel culture.
Preventing Don Brash from speaking at Massey is cancel culture.
Trying to get JK Rowling’s books cancelled is cancel culture.
Firing Michael Bassett was cancel culture.

Aren’t you glad you came here and learned the difference?

Class leftism is better than social justice not only because a homeless straight white men really is more oppressed than e.g. an elite Maori lesbian, but also because its apetite for cancel culture is lower.
