The Opportunities Party is delighted with the results of the first-ever party election:

The winner of the Leader position is Geoff Simmons. Geoff has been acting as the interim leader and was formerly General Manager of the Morgan Foundation. He brings with him a rock-solid background in TOP’s policy as well as excellent communication skills, particularly when discussing complex issues.

Geoff says “The Opportunities Party is back and calling for the Government to deliver real change that will work for people and businesses. We need tax reform that will put more money in the pockets of hardworking Kiwis, stop housing speculation and drive investment in business, but instead it looks like we will get (at best) a watered down Capital Gains Tax that will hurt business and do nothing to control house prices.”

The winner for Member Representative is Donna Pokere-Phillips, a former TOP candidate. She brings with her a background in law and Māori governance as well as superlative communication skills.

Donna says “I am humbled by this result and thank everyone who voted for me. I look forward to representing our members on the TOP Board and ensuring their voices are heard. I joined The Opportunities Party to achieve real change, not to be a career politician but to ensure our tamariki and mokopuna thrive in a society that promotes fairness and allows them to participate in an acceptable standard of living surrounded by a thriving environment. Being a member on the Board affords me the opportunity to ensure we are on track to achieving a fairer, more sustainable New Zealand through evidence based policies”

The voting results for both Leader and Membership Representative can be found online at the TOP website.

The voting was conducted through partnership with Horizon State – a secure platform for engagement and election processes.

  1. at the last electon morgan/top planned to support the tories…this was not mentioned pre-election..

i consider that to have been a total con-job played on those erstwhile left-leaning voters who gave top their vote..

how could it not have been..?

do they plan on running that scam again..?

    • How do you know that? Even if TOP had of gone with Nat/ACT that’s only 49% ie still no mates. Would have horse traded from the opposition benches anyway, like they said.
