Cannabis reform, legal suicide & MMP reform referendum – bullshit democracy done on the cheap

Jesus wept…

…this is bullshit Democracy done on the cheap.

Throw 3 seperate issues together and try and sweep them all under the carpet at the same time so the Government doesn’t have to show any real courage either way on any of the issues.

What does it say about us as a well informed electorate to try and look at contentious issues all crammed together at once when we are barely capable of debating basic stuff like climate change, affordable housing and poverty ?

In NZ we will legalise suicide because you are in pain, but not smoking a joint to alleviate that pain?

The issues of MMP reform are more complex, because of the 5% threshold, MMP has led to LESS democracy not more representation and the only changes likely will be the ones that benefit the large parties, not the health of our democracy.

Crushing all 3 issues together is a means to ram through important issues on the cheap.

  1. +100…totally agree with this POST … “Crushing all 3 issues together is a means to ram through important issues on the cheap.”

These are important issues and they need to be taken separately and given due debate

Also agree with this statement: “In NZ we will legalise suicide because you are in pain, but not smoking a joint to alleviate that pain?”

    Lets hope NOT!

  2. Maybe because there are so many powers working against their re-election,that they know time is against them…

  3. Problematic Corin

Our sincere Corin pushes his words out like a hurricane. Shoves them out over the top of any person whom he happens to be interviewing.

The general population of Aotearoa who does not have Corin’s scatter problem knows the difference between :

MARIJUANA – A big money maker with too little science behind it. But seemingly helpful for persons suffering endless pain.

EUTHENASIA – sending a consenting sane person off into a nether world

MMP – Flawed or Fabulous? It creates odd Parliamentary complexities. Its worse feature is that it puts people into parliament who have not been voted. You need a complex Uni degree to fathom it.

Kiwis even know the difference between dogs, cats and clouds. Give them a break.

  4. This will come back to bite Labour on the ass hard! Come General Election time they’ll be bogged down talking side issues .. and hopefully TOP will come racing up through the middle by talking about real issues like housing costs, land supply and tax reform!

Not to say legalizing cannabis isn’t a real issue, but TOP are already clear on their stance and aren’t so weak as to require a referendum if elected!

      • The Greens are one of the most useless parties to ever grace NZ parliament – both in and out of government. It would be quite the feat for TOP to be as useless if/when elected.

  5. No balls Martyn? We’ve established the Clarkesque tone. They were unready and they want approval from the people they were voted for to oppose. Why I voted against these two in internal Labour elections. No, I laughed myself sick at being a Labour member. Did it for Cunliffe.

  6. Little looks somewhat uneasy when the cannabis questions are asked.
Knowing these slippery turds they will try introduce some heavily restricted pile of crap and then disappear for xmas and hope we forget.
