We are now prosecuting a cannabis documentary maker with possession of a pipe & one plant – what the hell New Zealand?

It is infuriating that we seem to be going backwards on cannabis reform at a time when the rest of the developed world is regulating and legalising it.

This is NZ Documentary Film Maker, Arik Reiss. His great documentary ‘Druglawed’ details cannabus prohibition in NZ and the way America forced us into accepting the war on drugs as deeply flawed domestic policy.

He also supported medicinal cannabis users importing medicinal grade cannabis through legal means.

He was arrested last year for possession of a pipe and one plant at his home.

That is an absurdity, when the Politicians and apologists for cannabis prohibition tell you that people aren’t just arrested and sentenced for possession, remind them of this case.

We should not be arresting cannabis reform documentary makers for possessing pot, surely we are going backwards here?

  1. Its the establishment – MOH and cops – having a go, ahead of legalisation which will create opportunities for huge profits for corporates – the hemp industry is loving Chinese money to scale up to industrial production, when the legalising of hemp for human food is at the expense of tightening the probation over recreational cannabis use. Overseas the legalisation of Medical Cannabis ahead of legalising recreational cannabis creates a lag. That gives the drug corps a foot in the door while the rest of us are prosecuted. With this head start the drug corps claim patents over medical cannabis in collaboration with the privately dominated health industry, to steal the plant for pure profit. The corollary is that self-growing will be stamped on and recreational users penalised to keep alive the legacy of reefer madness. Lets see if the Coalition can buck this madness under pressure from the sane majority who want legalisation.

  2. One of the reasons we can’t have a proper debate about legalising cannabis in New Zealand is because anyone who publicly supports legalising it is putting a bulls eye on their back for the police to come and visit them. It’s like fighting with both hands tied behind your back.

  3. about what we expect to see here, doesnt matter what the people or even the ministers say the police in NZ are a law unto themselves, “above the law” is the correct saying.
Police state is what id call it, want dirty deeds done dirt cheep? call a cop, wanna spy on your neighbors? call a cop, wanna see those pesky 1080 protesters soiling your poison money framed? call a cop, wanna spy on your political opponents? call a cop.
Give em the finger keep the prints
    WWG1WGA like it or not

  4. Yes we are going backwards or perhaps the conservative right wing red neck old white man corner of the establishment, which obviously still has some influence in the system, has just has not advanced.

Even if Arik was not a film producer and supporter of the use of medicinal cannabis, being charged with this is absolutely ridiculous – one plant and one pipe to use for smoking cannabis….for goodness sake.

The cops of today still have the mindset of yesteryear – 1975, when the Misuse of Drugs Act came into being. Anecdotal evidence indicates that some cops also smoke and grow cannabis, so what is the problem?

  5. Its got to the point in time activists and regular cannabis users are all saying fuck the govt, we have had enough of this bullshit.
We have dragged these bloody politicians kicking and screaming like little children towards law change, made it an election issue and what do we have after? They have dumped the bill that got them elected and cobbled together some shitty half arsed deal to appease Winnie and now its stalled before the second reading and I hear Labour has pulled all the beurecrats off it too. Shane Le Brun cant even get a meeting with David Clark anymore, hes shut the door on us.
Now we wait on a bloody referendum where they dont even have a question, there has been no information provided but all we see on the likes of Stuff are negative stories about ‘synthetic cannabis’ when they have been repeatedly asked not to use the word cannabis because its got nothing to do with cannabis, or other stories from that dickhead Bob McCroskrie who is making up facts as he goes along, much like Trump actually.
So now we just dont care anymore, just wish the cops would bugger off, change is coming and we know they dont like it, they will lose their sniff and search ability without a warrant.
