Mike Hosking has lectured the country on Public Broadcasting?

Is there anything more inane?

Mike Hosking: the big mistake with public service TV

Clare wants a publicly funded TV channel, even though she already has one.

The one she has she can’t really do a lot with, given past political issues and the cold hard realisation that TVNZ is on a path these days you’d be an idiot to mess with.

So she decided she’d hand the money to Radio New Zealand.

Radio NZ aren’t that keen on TV either given they’ve never done it.

And that’s before you get to the fact the money Clare is handing out is peanuts.

Oh, and no one would watch it.

I think I summed up our need for public broadcasting pretty well…

…we have entrenched power hegemonies in NZ that smother debate and focus on the trivial and the divisive rather than challenge the neoliberal structure. With global economic recessions looming and the existential threat of climate change – we need  a town square on public broadcasting platforms that includes rather than splinter and divides in social media echo chambers.

Mike Hosking lecturing on public broadcasting is like Donald Trump lecturing on feminism, diplomacy and racial tolerance.

Yes well at least this negative media about the useless clare curran will spook labour into firing the useless Clare Curran.

Then labour must then get us a ‘kick-arse’ Minister of Broadcasting who can get us that real ‘commercial free public affairs investigative jouralistic media channel’ she promised us and failed to deliver on and get you and the team on every nightly chapters of a real ‘Fourth Estate show’ hopefully right?.

  2. I can never get past seeing him as the fruit and vege market reporter on RNZ

he should stick with reporting on the cost of turnips and bananas

  3. Sadly, he is right. The government needs to set up have a proper national tv channel (or convert TV1 or TV2 to it and sell off the other channel) instead of trying to get National Radio to do both jobs.

And it does need huge amounts of government money thrown at it, plus become commercial free.

He is wrong that no one would watch it as TV7 was starting to get really good viewing figures and it wasn’t even set up as a serious national tv channel

  4. I don’t listening let alone reading whatever the sweaty faced biased towards the NZ National Party Mike Hosking(or his wife for that matter)says in the NZ media anymore.Neither of the aforementioned twosome appear to have much intelligence between their ears. They seem to only parrot word for word whatever they are told to say by their National Party bosses/masters.
Looking at the sweaty faced photo of Mike Hosking in the above photo I am now wondering if he is trying to parrot the facial features of Donald Trump i.e the pout. Next will he be seen holding his right thumb with another right handed finger as if he is trying to hold a needle and thread???!! He will perhaps have nailed the Trump pout and gestures down to a T.
We all know Trump is somewhat of a lunatic and perhaps Hosking harks for such an accolade. Especially considering both Hosking and Trump appear to have an intense dislike of strong minded women.

  5. Hosking is so weak. As soon as his beloved National and Key departed, Hosking no longer had a protected platform to preach from. So under a Labour government he ran away. Gutless.
