In 1984, the pure horror of Big Brother’s ability to enter the mind of the individual and to violently scream its parameters of truth and reality are ghoulishly displayed when Winston is asked how many fingers his torturer is holding up…
…Trump’s America is constantly telling the people that there are only 3 fingers when they put up four. Whether it’s the size of his inauguration crowd, his hands or whether children are being locked up in cages, the redefinition of reality as Big Brother Trump sees it, is the definition that must be accepted by his loyal acolytes.
America has never been at war with Russia, America has always been at war with Canada.
America has just announced that it is pulling out if the UN human rights council…
US quits UN human rights council
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and America’s UN envoy, Nikki Haley, made the announcement at a joint news conference in Washington.
Ms Haley last year accused the council of “chronic anti-Israel bias” and said the US was reviewing its membership.
…It’s as if America is violently tearing itself to pieces as we watch in stunned disbelief at the fragility of the great fabric of civilisation.
This doesn’t get better. It only becomes far more dangerous until something snaps.
In America we are seeing a theatre of cruelty for an audience of resentment.
An orchestra of crying children as a new anthem of malice.
One nation under rod, indivisible, with suffering and misery for some.
Good thing that the Chinese dictatorship is so much better, innit?

Thanks – I’d forgotten this wee gem. The follies of chasing the “youf vote” by Party committee :o)
It can never get better, Martyn. The system is corrupt and unsustainable. It’s the exact way it ends that we are unsure of.
A further slide yesterday:
‘President Trump said he is readying another US$200 bln in Chinese goods for new 10% tariffs – if Beijing retaliates against his previous tariffs hike. China has already said they will, calling the American move ‘extortion’. Beijing is angry now.
Wall Street stocks are falling with the Dow down more than -1%, turning negative for the year. The sharp escalation in the US-China trade dispute is unnerving investors and there is a growing risk-off tone to trading. The greenback rose but bond yields sank.
And Chinese investors are rushing for the exits; more than one third on equities on the Shanghai exchange fell by the maximum -10% and were suspended from trading for the day. The Shanghai SSE index was down -3.8%. It was no better in Japan, where the Nikkei was down a chunky -1.8%. Hong Kong split the difference, being down -2.8%. The NZX didn’t fare much better, being down -1.2% yesterday. It was a sea of red in stock markets around the world overnight. Your KiwiSaver values will have taken a hit.’

I wouldn’t be surprised if the US quit the UN entirely at this stage. Given that Trump doesn’t give a shit about diplomacy and/or global cooperation to solve problems, the US really has no need for it and it would save them a lot of money (at least US$9 billion).

If that were to happen, with 20% of their funding gone and its legitimacy/relevancy in tatters the entire UN would collapse pretty quickly soon after.
Trump is just using the instruments that such as British Imperialists used many years ago. When I first learned about concentration camps, I always thought of the Nazi ones, later I learned the British invented them, so to say, in a place called SOUTH AFRICA, believe it or not:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_concentration_camps
This was discussed at length several years ago on several websites (I think, including TDB before you started commenting).
The Germans did mush the same -set up concentration camps- in Southwest Africa in the early 1900s, probably having got the idea from the British.
Here’s another nice one for you: having found their way to Israel after liberation, many Jews were deported back to Germany and put in holding facilities that amounted to concentration camps by the British because immigration into the then Palestine mandated territory exceeded the arbitrary quota the British had deemed suitable.
A quite modern example was the removal of islanders from Garcia Diego to the Maldives by the British in the mid-1960s, to make way for the American base that the British had negotiated. That was under the so-called socialist PM Harold Wilson.
The cruelty and hypocrisy of the empire knows no bounds.
Never forget ‘the experiment’, in which ordinary folk were randomly divided into ‘prisoners’ and ‘guards’: within hours the ‘guards’ began to abuse the ‘prisoners’.
Just as disturbing was the experiment in which ordinary folk were asked to subject an unseen responder to electric shocks of ever higher voltage if responses were incorrect.
“Have I killed him?”
But we love and adore the Queen, right?
I still think there is a good chance of Trump at least accidentally, if not intentionally, starting a conflict that will end in WW3.
10 to 1 he will chuck the UN when he attacks Iran which will happen with this bunch of nutters. We live in interesting times.
UN Human Rights Council Condemnations, 2006-2016:
Israel – 68
China – 0
Iraq – 0
Pakistan – 0
Russia – 0
Somalia – 0
Turkey – 0
Venezuela – 0
…Just saying
Martyn;
“In America we are seeing a theatre of cruelty for an audience of resentment.
An orchestra of crying children as a new anthem of malice.
One nation under rod, indivisible, with suffering and misery for some.”
After showing early promise, Martyn, this article is most disappointing.
The photo of the child in red, and all the others shown on our TV1 news, were all
taken in 2014, under Obama who wanted the issue ‘hush, hush’.

You should have uncovered this for what it is – a carefully crafted political hit piece.!!
You can do much better than this.
Ronald Reagan stated:
“You know, someone very profoundly once said; that if fascism ever comes to America it will
come in the name of Liberalism.!”
Cheers.
UPDATE:
http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/world/360072/trump-reverses-family-separation-policy-after-backlash
WTF?!
Of course Reagan would say that! Reagan and Thatcher were both acolytes of neo-liberalism! Our own Douglas and Richardson copies Thatcher and Reagan.
Are you seriously suggesting that Reagan wasn’t responsible for the new right “reforms” in the US; the greatest military build-up since WW2; and taking the planet closer than ever to WW3 with the introduction of Pershing II and cruise missiles in Europe?
If you’re attempting to dismiss all that and paint Reagan as some sort of liberal, then either your sense of history is skewed, or you’re not being up-front with your political allegiance, Iain.
Martyn’s piece is spot on.
