Let’s get this straight, a teenager was kept inside Police cells for 5 nights because the Horse of the Year Awards are on and there isn’t any spare accomodation in Hawkes Bay???
At the hearing, a representative from Oranga Tamariki told the court the youth couldn’t be placed with social service Te Ikaroa Rangatahi and much of the region’s alternative accommodation was fully booked due to Horse of the Year.
That the Ministry for Abusing Children had the gall to explain to the Judge that they couldn’t place the teen because the Horse of the Year is on, while hilarious for its Nu Zilindness, sums up the ‘not-funded-enough-to-give-a-fuck’ mentality from the Ministry.
Only in NZ could a teen remain locked up for 5 nights because the Horse of the Year Award had taken up all the accomodation.
Miscarriages of justice because of rural farm shows sums us up perfectly as a country.
This state abuse is similar to the labor camp teenages abuse but it hasn’t been given much media attention and who is to blame for this happening? this is not a new issue its been happening and rife for the last 9 years.
Actually, that’s a lie, there is no accomodation in the Hawkes Bay because they have RSE pickers stacked like sardines in all the lower/med end motels.
They only blamed it on Horse of the Year because they think it sounds classier and that, in some twisted way, its good publicity for our go ahead local economy.

“Rural farm show?”
Do some fact checking instead of donald chumpisms.
Or, is fact checking irrelevant?
