The magnificence of the new Labour-NZ First-Green Government

Labour have announced their Cabinet…

…here is what the Greens have managed to gain…

…and here is what Labour are setting their sights on…

…and let’s not forget Winston’s denouncement of the failed neoliberal capitalism that has exacerbated poverty and inequality rather than combat them…

“Far too many New Zealanders have come to view today’s capitalism, not as their friend, but as their foe. And they are not all wrong. That is why we believe that capitalism must regain its responsible – its human face. That perception has influenced our negotiations.”

…this Government’s agenda has the ability to rebuild, repair and restore the mana of this nation.

Watch how the corporate elites who believe they run this country react to such a full frontal attack on the economic system that has enabled their power.

Running the campaign was easy.

Negotiating a new Government was easy.

Actually governing with a global financial collapse imminent, environmental apocalypse caused by climate change and corporate vested interests challenged, the Labour-NZ First-Green Government is going to have to fight every day to maintain their momentum.

The good news is that the stats quo simply can’t stand and that this new Government will have no choice but to implement radical new policy, the bad news is that every sector of the economy that benefit from the unfair economic settings are already plotting.

  1. Reading those policies is uplifting, and as you say, has been a long time in coming – but needs to be done. I for one am happy to pay more tax if need be, to go towards these policies, as opposed to the pockets of the 1%.
I will happily fight along with this coalition – as its the best chance NZ has had in a very long while.

  2. Significant climate action with a shift to a zero carbon emissions economy by 2050 with specific focuses on transport, Yes yes yes yes yes.!!!!!!!!!!!

RAIL MUST NOW BE AT THE CENTRE STAGE OF FUTURE REGIONAL REDEVELOPMENT FOR REGIONAL FREIGHT FOR EXPORT AND PASSENGER RAIL.

THIS IS NOW URGENTLY REQUIRED AS THE PREVIOUS NATIONAL GOVERNMENT WAS SYSTEMATICALLY DESTROYING ALL REGIONAL RAIL.

AS A RESULT NOW THE ROADS ARE NOW BEING HEAVILY SUBSIDISED TO PROP UP THE INCREASING MAINTANENCE COST OF CONTINIOUS CONSTANT ROAD REPAIRS DUE TO THE TRUCKS THAT ARE DAILY RIPPING OUR ROADS APART.

TEARING UP ROADS ARE HAPPENING SO FAST NOW THE ROADING CONTRACTORS IN GISBORNE/HB ARE FINALLY ADMITTING THEY CANNOT COPE WITH THE TASK OF REPAIRING THEM.

  3. Yes magnificence is the word. As the late historian Howard Zinn might say. A marvellous victory. But as Winston Churchill said, it is not the end of even the beginning. Why could not the much heralded post-neoliberal, transformational goal of this Labour-led Government be anchored and heralded with legislation under the simple title of ” The Social Responsibility Act”, to create equity bottom lines to frame The Fiscal Responsibility Act of the benefit-slasher Ruth Richardson a generation ago now?

    • … ” The Social Responsibility Act”, to create equity bottom lines to frame The Fiscal Responsibility Act of the benefit-slasher Ruth Richardson a generation ago now? ”…

      Yes.

      The Social Responsibility Act.

If anything to provide contrast to the ugliness of the neo liberal agenda as a backdrop for JUST WHY there needs to be such changes…

      I like it.

In fact , – it should be written and then locked into our ‘ constitution’ to prevent any such return or attempts at re-implementing the destructive policy’s of Roger Douglas and Ruth Richardson ever again. Thus forever sealing the fate of neo liberalism in New Zealand.

New Zealand was the test case for neo liberalism. How fitting we should then be the first to reject and legislate against it.

It would be the greatest slap in the eye we could ever give to the Globalists . And a warning shot to any other future pretenders.

      • Now there is a challenge. A Social Responsibility Act written into our informal sort of constitution.
And one that ensures that in future; publicly owned assets cannot be just flogged off; public institutions cannot be privatised followed by loads of corporate welfare; and things like expiration dates on legislation passed under urgency, and a review of all legislation that breaches BOR and ToW.
There’s a whole host of things that should be included.

  4. … ” the bad news is that every sector of the economy that benefit from the unfair economic settings are already plotting ” …

Indeed they will be , Mr Bradbury ,… and they will have been making plans well before this election. They will already have an auxiliary plan all set to go.

We will see it in the media , we will see it in resistance from Treasury / Reserve Bank. We will see it from Business groups in issuing statements designed to create fear about employment losses and business closures. We will see it the form of dire predictions about the loss of ‘ foreign investment ‘ . And we will see it especially emanating from the Opposition benches as they now deposed, … are the visual face of powerful and manipulative big business interests in this country.

Its time to call their bluff.

    Because it is all fabrication.

A fabrication driven by the likes of the old Business Roundtable , – now known as the New Zealand Initiative.

But it looks as though Winston Peters will be calling their bluff and dismantling their privileged positions of power and political manipulation. And if ever there was a person who can do this , its Winston Peters. He has been itching to do this for decades, knows all the players and just how to successfully strip them of their un-mandated , un-elected powers.

They are going to get what is long overdue in coming to them.

We , the people of this country combined with this new government ,are going to be taking that power back. And as a sub plot to all this , we are also taking our sovereignty back as well,.. and will be no longer subjected to unwanted foreign influences.

This is a remarkable new era unfolding for New Zealand politics and for the people of New Zealand. Absolutely remarkable.

  5. Now is the time to fight corruption…we need the BIG data on so much that the Nact government hid and denied New Zealanders…the full facts

  6. Did Jacinda Ardern “curse the All Blacks”?

Okay, I know this might be a little tongue in cheek, its sort of meant to look like it, a bit, but I also think there is some warped white man conservative logic pouring out here from the anonymous journalist who wrote this shit and even worse, the Herald who published it.

See, vote the commy’s in and look what happens! Told ya.

Yep, there’s always been this sneaking suspicion, way in the back of our little minds that these sort of women are a threat, like our medieval ancestors knew, that women, especially with cats and black hair are witches sent to curse us to eternal damnation. Nothing to do with the fact the boring fucks have been overcome by the banality of daily rugby and should have called it a day two months ago.

Fair to say thought that ruination is nigh good white Rugby followers and this is just the beginning!!!

Or at least the beginning of the anti left media campaign!

    • Totally agree. It’s not so much the article as the headline.
It’s almost Mark Richardson in nature (with a Duncan Garner chuckling alongside)

  7. NZ will, indeed, have a ‘zero net carbon emissions economy by 2050’ because current economic arrangements -totally based on the burning petroleum imported from overseas- will collapse before 2030, and could well collapse in the early 2020s:

‘A report by HSBC shows that contrary to the commonplace narrative in the industry, even amidst the glut of unconventional oil and gas, the vast bulk of the world’s oil production has already peaked and is now in decline’

    https://medium.com/insurge-intelligence/brace-for-the-financial-crash-of-2018-b2f81f85686b

The high Energy Return On Energy Invested sources of oil were all used up decades ago and the entire globalized system is now dependent on oil that is extracted at high energy cost, high environmental cost and high financial cost. And, contrary to the general perception of the masses and politicians, oil discovery peaked in the 1960s and is in severe decline.

Sadly, there in not one word about energy, and particularly the peaking of extraction of conventional oil, which occurred in 2007: we are now 10 post peak and still have NO PLAN for the inevitable decline in global extraction which will demolish current economic arrangements and annihilate most of the food supply.

In fact, for the past two decades there have only been two issues really worth discussing:

    1. How do we prevent the mass starvation that must inevitable accompany the global decline in oil extraction?

    2. How do we prevent Abrupt Climate Change rendering the Earth largely uninhabitable by mid-century?

Sadly, the new government is as much in denial of reality as every other that preceded it on those two matters.

    • I agree – and what about any mention of poisoning our country with
      1 0 8 0 ? ? ?

And what about any mention of disconnecting from the U.N. and the
elite corporations that still control most governments ? ?

We are sadly misled if we think that this new govt. will be that much
better than the last. See if it is not business as usual with a few new little twists that will not much benefit the environment or those in need.
How many veterans and disabled and seniors will be sufficiently helped ?
How many suicide prone folks will be helped ?
How many homeless will be supported and how much deep sea oil drilling and fracking will continue ? Same ole same ole for the most part because the elite and criminal N.W.O dominated corporations still control and dictate to almost every govt. on the planet.
Helen sold out ( GMO; sucking up to the U.N. etc. ) and she is Jacinda’s idol. Business as usual , for the most part, after the election afterglow wanes. Wait and see.

  8. Loving this, another first rate article Martym youve covered it well, this is excellent stuff to look forward to. Whatever happens globally I feel sure and confident that NZ under this new Lab/NZFirst/Greens govt with Jacinda at the helm is not going to competently ride the storms but we will all be better off in the long run. And thats what its all about.
