Drug testing of beneficiaries is turning up an extremely low number of results showing drug use – and a lot of missing information about the controversial policy.
Of the 8,001 beneficiaries sent for jobs requiring drug testing, only 22 tested positive to drug use or refused to take tests.
…so it turns out there isn’t really a problem, they have no idea how much this bloody thing has cost and, get this, they have no idea how much money this fiasco has supposedly saved.
So empirically, the entire drug testing of beneficiaries scheme has been a total flop in real terms, but this was never about a real problem, this was always about perpetrating a myth of no good stoner beneficiaries smoking the ganja and pissing away the benefit. From the point of view of redneck bennie bashing propoganda, this program was a screaming success.
National are fighting this election by lying about Labour & playing to the pettiest bigotries of their rump vote – bootcamps for delinquents, benefit cuts for druggie beneficiaries & human rights erosion for gang members.

Excuse me, are the people writing in the media, sitting in front of television cameras and behind microphones actually informed about the law that already exists? Have they ever taken note of the regime that was imposed on beneficiaries and their families four years ago?
If they had been informed, this what the National Party and Bill English and his minister Tolley announced yesterday, would have soon enough been found out as NOTHING NEW at all, as that is what WINZ does do already, and it seems as it is nothing but a rehash of old, unsavoury, toxic potatoes for dinner, that the poorest of the poor already have to swallow.
I despair at the ignorance of media staff and front persons in New Zealand, and at the gullible public, that even suck this nonsense up!
The only difference may be, they will intensify the pressures on a group of youth up to 25 years of age.

Am very well aware that laws always lag behind technology.
Not to mention the serious bullying and emotional phsycological stress winz puts on young people, with serious health issues, that should be on the supported living benefit that are refused it and placed on the jobseekers and forced into jobs they have no hope of keeping because of their health .
I would love to know the number of supported living benefit applications that have been refused and or denied since national came into power.
I have been told that to get the supported living / invalids benefit prior to 2008 when national came to power you only had to be unable to work for three months. Since 2008 it has been pushed out to 2 years. I have seen numerous posts on facebook where people with cancer have been refused. I myself have been supporting a young diabetic since he was 18 for the last 7 years who has been refused the supported living ? invalids benefit numerous times and as a consequence his health has gone downhill drastically.
As I said to someone they should lay a complaint with the human rights commissioner against winz for breach of their human right to get decent state aid that allows them to lead a decent life when they are not capable of working with a decent wage to allow them to buy their medicines and live at a decent level.
This cronic abuse from all sides ie on the health front and welfare front where they are denied decent services and ability to gain health care in a public hospital in a reasonable amount of time at no cost none of this part payment crap to buy a fast fix from the same surgeon in a private hospital and the ability to buy their meds at a subsidised price.
So Martyn how about a official information question to find out how many supported living benefits have been turned down and a blog on it and the type of illnesses that the people had who were turned down and why they were turned down.
My diabetic friend been turned down numerous times for starters.
I would like to know if our police have the numbers on the following crimes, shop lifting charges , burglaries, rustling, aggravated robberies, P use cause surely the police records should show an increase in these types of crimes and over what period. This would be good information/facts to show how the gnats policies have encouraged if not increased this type of behavior. If they don’t have this information why not and if they do why hasn’t this information been made public knowledge.

Especially if they are young and in a relationship and get no benefit and also have serious health issues. They have no other choice but to commit crime if they have no job or income. Only other option is to beg on Facebook, which I have had to do several times or take out numerous payday loans, to pay for meds or urgent operations he cant wait for in the public hospital system. Our social welfare and healthcare system is beyond broken it is a torture system set up by the National party to inflict the most cruel abuse ever devised. It is worse than what happened in 1991 after the mother of all budgets by a wide mile.
