  1. This blog has ignored the TV3 leaders’ debate on Monday night as if it never happened, so I guess I’ll have to start the ball rolling.
Patrick Gower performed OK except in one thing: he couldn’t control Bill English’s petulant outbursts and continual interruption of Jacinda.
Bill English is generally known as a relatively calm reasoned debater, even in parliament he seldom loses his cool.
He lost it on Monday night – several times.
The intent was obvious – be a man! get this upstart woman to cower and hope she loses her train of thought.
    It didn’t work.
Shouty Bill must be leading a very nervous National Party right now.
Being rude is not going to win you the soft vote.

    • English has been told (by Crosby Textor perhaps?) that he should simulate passion by waving his hands around like Donald Trump, to counter the public’s impression that he has a wooden personality.

He has also been instructed to interrupt his opponent ..in the style of John Key. It was good to see the mediator attempting, admittedly without much success, to stop him shouting over Adern. She gave as good as she got.

These two strategies, hand gestures and interruptions, unfortunately are working especially with the media who are susceptible to such tricks.

It’s amazing that on Monday night English finally admitted that 100,000 plus kiwi children live in poverty..after years of denial.

What next? Maybe an admission that there is a housing crisis?

    • 100% MARCUS,

Both Bull English & his master SS Joyce both have displayed a flashpoint of anger now in the same day.

SS Joyce did clearly loose his ‘calm’ when John Campbell on ‘checkpoint’ last night when John was actively interviewing Joyce over the ‘$11 billion hole’ Joyce claim was in Labour’s ‘alternative budget policy’

Joyce depicted a rant of a barking dog when pushed by john.

      What a sight that was.

Joyce has a very dark & sinister side there for sure.

So very aggressive, I hope John wasn’t censured afterwards by Joyce or even warned if he does it again he will lose his job!!!!!

I will see if John is as ‘investigative’ tonight, I hope so for we need real investigative Journalism.

      • Steven Joyce was made to look like an absolute twat at the end of the debate between him and Grant Robertson on Morning Report today. Even the right-leaning stuff website are laughing at Joyce’s lack of credibility over his 11 billion dollar hole fiction.
Bill English seems to have a better grasp of economics than his finance minister.
And these clods think we should trust them on tax matters?
        Yeah right!

  2. I thought Jacinda came out better than Bill in the debate…he looked old and tired , she young and fresh and enthusiastic and genuine

However Bill told lots of porkies…and I would have liked it better if she had called him out on them ie the hypocrisy of Bill talking about how Nactional is going to do the best for child poverty and NZ housing…

It is Nactional that has caused child poverty and the housing crisis! …so lets not be polite about this hypocrisy!

Where I think Jacinda is equivocal and weak is on the tax issue

….taxing land is going to drive NZers off their land or force NZers to subdivide it

….is this really what Labour wants?!

( they should be careful on this one as it could turn into a backfire and an opposition vote against Labour like the raising of super did last Election)

If they don’t want wealthy new immigrants and foreigners buying up several farms they should discriminate against overseas buyers and foreigners…force them out of the market as Winston NZF would do

    …my vote goes to NZF

  3. From the Herald 7th September2017
‘Minister of Finance Steven Joyce has confirmed that he did not complete eight economics papers while at university in the 1980s’……….university transcript says ;’Five economics-related papers are marked as DNC – Did Not Complete – two are marked WD – Withdrawn. An eighth failed paper is marked with an E grade.’

On the failure to name one economist who agrees with him on ‘Holegate he claims it’s a matter of “accounting” not “economics”.
    Nice one!

  4. David Lange sort of got it right when he said economists were like reef fish, it turns out most people are.
The swing to Labour just because they changed leaders reminds me of how my chickens act when I feed them, even though I’m chucking out the same food, they always go to the last handful chucked.
The ‘voters’ are the same, it is the same party chucking out the same crap that Little was chucking out, yet the chickens are running around like the dumb birds they are, the voters might as well be headless.
    The con carries on
This could be the last election in NZ … I told ya so )
