“FreePress Aotearoa announces the launch of Aotearoa Leaks (https://aotearoaleaks.org), a New Zealand specific web service that provides a safe and secure channel for whistleblowers to share information,” said FreePress Aotearoa founder Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara.

“The service can be used by anyone who becomes aware of illegal, unethical, or corrupt activity within an organisation that is either private or public.”

“The recent high profile case of fraud at the Ministry of Transport and the police raids of author Nicky Hager’s house after his book Dirty Politics was published show that whistleblowers are often pursued and punished for coming forward, even when the correct channels to expose corruption are used.”

“Aotearoa Leaks allows a secure buffer between the people who know there is wrongdoing, and those who can assist them do something about it.”

“In some instances such as with sea slavery cases, people working within the shipping cartels would be in extreme danger if it were discovered that they were exposing this horrid trade in human labour.”

“The site allows people to disclose information safely with journalists and legal support, through private encrypted channels. Specific issue areas are then handled by a co-ordinator who will work with journalists, lawyers and civil liberties groups to determine how to best deal with the information. Remedies could include media exposure, as well as legal and political action.”

“As with any independent, professional journalistic organisation, FreePress Aotearoa will ensure a careful screening process of any information received, for issues of privacy and security, and for accuracy.”

  1. Bloody awesome effort!!!!

We hope the Journalists come out of the closet and declare that they’re all gagged from free press activities now!!!!

  2. Enough Kiwis know that the dirty secrets of politics and business are crushing our determination and efforts to change the direction we are heading.

Some unity in vocal and effective opposition against back room deals would be strengthened by whistle blowers protection at all levels.

Protesters have always been our leaders and elected politicians have usually been against any such protest because of their hidden agenda and alliances formed away from public gaze.

Corporate lying and political lies have become normalised due to the frequency of the lying and the power of MSM to defeat transparency.

We have a public duty to unit behind whistle blowers.

The public and NZ will benefit by the normalisation of transparency.
