Heard recently that there are 800 extra cars coming onto Auckland’s roads EVERY WEEK! If that is not enough to press alarm bells than what is?
Urgent action is needed now.
The build-more-roads brigade which is an essential part of this government does not have a clue.
Perhaps a congestion tax, this seems to have worked quite well in London. How about Chinese cities where some vehicles are prohibited on certain days according to numberplates.
How about carless days, like we had in 1979 (under a NATIONAL government) when OPEC threatened to stop exporting oil. The idea was good but the plan was rather poorly executed. With modern computer technology it would stand a much better chance today.
But probably the response from the National government will be the same as their response to most problems – do nothing.

At a select committee today, Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty said children at a Manawatu primary school had handled assault rifles as part of a Defence Force experience.
Education Minister Nikki Kaye said there were no guidelines on such matters, but she’d been assured the school had not broken the law.
She had asked however for some official rules to be drawn up, she said.
She said she personally did not think firearms should be taken into schools, but that there were some “very rare” exceptions.
