Enjoy great Ika events in new-look bar & dining room

As I write the carpenters are in action, with our new look dining room and bar to be revealed when we re-open on Thursday. Check out our beautiful glass coconuts in the window, made by our friends at Hot Glass Fiji. You’ll be able to enjoy some extra elbow space in an enlarged bar area – whether it’s your Christmas do, a night out or one of November’s classic Ika events.

Ross Bell says our drug laws suck … join him at our 15 Nov Salon

Executive Director of the NZ Drug Foundation, Ross Bell’s been working from the trenches to the palace on drug policy for two decades. He says our drug laws suck. They don’t work to reduce drug harm. Ross will take us to the frontline of drug policy on Tuesday 15 November. What’s the New Zealand path to change? Ika Salons combine a great meal at a fixed price ($32) with speakers from across culture, politics, policy and science. Join a table or book for a group. We are thrilled to have Ross, who is travelling up from Wellington especially for the Salon – and is unmatched in his quest for a sane approach to drug policy.

Close up magic next week – with the very clever Harry Seth

Close up illusionist, Harry Seth, returns with his magic hands to Ika next Tuesday, 8 November. From 6.30 – 8 pm Harry will be filling in the gaps between courses, enchanting big and small people alike. Harry’s first appearance was a great success – just book for dinner on the 8th and enjoy this special treat (at no extra cost).

Earlybird bookings open now for our final Table Talk of the year – with Mihingarangi Forbes

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

Broadcaster Mihingarangi Forbes will host our final Ika/The Spinoff.co.nz Table Talk on Tuesday 29 November. Current affairs cabaret style, this Table Talk will explore the parliamentary road for Maori politics – with a panel of movers and shakers. Next year’s election result may well depend on the Maori electorates, and Maori participation in politics. We’ll be announcing panelists soon – but meanwhile it’s wise to book early for the ever-popular nights so we have our booking system ready for you here.
