Dear friends,

We have several events/activities happening over the next month or so – then a break over the holiday period – with some exciting international visitors and a film screening currently being planned for next year (details to be confirmed).

5 November Parihaka Day Peace Action Conference – Auckland

Marama Davidson one of the speakers at this event, for those who wish to hear her account of her experience on the Women’s Boat to Gaza. The event runs from 10am to 3.30pm at Auckland Central Library. More details here:

11 November Israel-NZ trade summit – Auckland

“Israel: The Start-Up Nation Summit”, connecting “innovators and investors in Israel and New Zealand”. This seems to be spearheaded by Simon Moutter (Spark CEO), who was part of the recent ‘innovation mission’ to Israel.

Where: Russell McVeagh, 48 Shortland St, Auckland CBD.

Time: We will form a picket from 8am-9am, hopefully as they are entering the building.

Please consider being part of this, just for one hour in the morning. It would be great to have a good number of us to get through to those people who are looking to invest and show them there is serious opposition to their activities – your presence matters!

There will also be a placard making session for this on Tuesday 8th November from 7pm at Unite Union, 6a Western Springs Road, all welcome, we will supply materials.

16 November Blockade the arms trade (and ‘Week of Peace’ 13th-20th) – Auckland

Auckland Peace Action (APA) is organising a Week of Peace in response to the government’s plans for a week of war from 13-20 November. Check the APA website: www.aucklandpeaceaction.nz for more details on events throughout the week.

The Palestine Solidarity Network will have a stall at ‘Blockade the Arms Trade’ on the morning of Wednesday 16th November from 9am-12pm, showing our opposition to the weapons expo: 550 representatives of the world’s largest weapons dealers at the Viaduct Events Centre – many of whom profit from the weapons used to massacre of Palestinians and the systems of their daily oppression and incarceration.

Facebook:

Some participants in the Blockade will be actively attempting to block entrance to the expo. We will be part of the ‘green zone’, a family-friendly space with music, face-painting, food, speakers and other activities. If you do want to be part of the actual blockade, get in touch with APA to find out what’s involved: aucklandpeaceaction.

We invite all members to attend in whatever capacity you feel comfortable. If you can do a stint on the stall, let me know (no experience necessary). We also invite you to bring any flags, banners and placards linking these weapons dealers to the injustices in Palestine or showing solidarity with Palestine, in a colourful display of peaceful resistance.

Peace Flotilla:

I am also part of a group organising a Peace Flotilla on Auckland harbour on the morning of November 17th as the international warships arrive. Those of you with boats or kayaks who are interested in being part of this, let me know.
