If ever you think New Zealand doesn’t have a national alcohol problem, then clearly you haven’t heard of the idiotic national crate day sponsored by the Rock.
I can’t think of anything that more blatantly demonstrates the alcohol industry’s complete disregard for the health and welfare of New Zealanders.
There is nothing worthy about this stunt. It is designed as a suck more piss extravaganza to increase alcohol industry profits.
The very fact that it goes ahead despite the heavy opposition against it demonstrates the power that the liquor industry holds in this country, and how it controls the John Key National government.
In a word, disgraceful!
So price-fixing and bid-rigging are not criminal offences here in NZ because our economy is small and open! With such an honest and transparent government at the helm we clearly have nothing to fear.
It turns out New Zealand literally is paradise on earth for the likes of Martha Stewart and Sepp Blatter. Perhaps we could persuade them to present the next Air New Zealand in-flight safety video. How reassuring for us all.
In terms on sheer ignorance and defending a u-turn, it’s up there with Sam Lotu-Iiga’s incompetance.
Thank you for the link, Frank.
“We don’t want to stifle innovation, chilling effect, we don’t want decision makers to become ultra cautious blah blah blah”. Unbelievable!
They are not worried about the chilling effect of punitive measures threatening benefit recipients who fail to remember a doctor’s appointment. They live their lives in fear of not being ultra cautious.

Indeed, Jenny.
Paul Goldsmith’s responses to Guyon Espiner’s questions on ‘Morning Report’ this morning was truly pathetic. (http://www.radionz.co.nz/audio/player/201782073)(alt. link: http://podcast.radionz.co.nz/mnr/mnr-20151209-0747-criminal_sanctions_exit_cartel_bill_is_a_govt_u-turn-048.mp3)
