How does pointing out the farce our egalitarianism has become with the rise of spoilt uber rich kids a communist hate campaign?
How does Hooton get away with saying mad things like this and STILL get invited onto panel discussion shows?
(BTW – TV3 won’t tell you this on The Nation, but their new go to poster boy for the Right – that cheerful little thug Ben Thomas – is actually now working for Hooton. Why does The Nation never tell people that?)
But back to Hoots. Let’s not forget, that when Cathy Odgers asked for Hager’s address in Dirty Politics so that wealthy clients of her’s could assassinate Hager for drawing attention to the clandestine trusts they were using to launder cash, Hooton immediately gave Cathy Hager’s address.
I’m just not sure that a man who hands over the address of a Journalist in the hope that Journalist becomes a target for Chinese mafia assassination has any high ground left to claim others of hate campaigns.

Ben ‘BJT’ Thomas is a good man. A great man. He’s of the right – he has been from the cot – but he’s always been ready to listen to the other side (and change his mind if persuaded). And I’d like to think he’s edging leftwards: I reckon the BJT 2015 edition is marginally more socialistic than Genghis Khan.
The Aotearovian Left will consign itself to another decade of despair if it can’t tell the difference between a Ben and a Jordan Williams-style chump. The BJTs of this world are good people, at least as good as we are. We must learn that our professed political ideology doesn’t give us a monopoly on decency, compassion or even just good ideas.

I don’t know if you are right about this dude, but I think the point is well taken and needs to be at least somewhere in the forefront, because one of our tasks between now and the next election is to persuade the persuadable of all colours that we can do a damn sight better than this.
And that smart people with ideas and energy, wherever they started politically, should have the chance to be at the heart of moving this society into a structure worthy of its aspirations and preparing all its citizens for the challenges and opportunities to come.
Maybe that includes BJT, maybe it doesn’t.
It certainly doesn’t include Matthew Hooten, whose track record seems to attest to his being one of the smartest and one of the least admirable people in the room.
