Russel Norman has decided to step down from the Greens in October and take up a job to lead Greenpeace. That is amazing news for Greenpeace and incredible news for Marama Davidson who is next on the list.

Marama is one of the best voices for civil liberties this country has. She has incredible compassion, intelligence and warmth. Her entering Parliament is probably one of the best things to happen to NZ Politics in a decade.

Russel deserves accolades and well wishes, and his leadership of Greenpeace will mean he still has a strong voice in one of our best activist organisations. With the growing calamity of climate change, we need his leadership within activism like never before.

Finally a ray of light for the progressive movement, Greenpeace gaining the leadership of someone with the mana of Norman and Parliament gaining someone with the potential of Davidson.

  1. Perhaps Marama can finally broker a forum of effective alliances that can break the infighting cycle that keeps the opposition parties from getting together as they all need to become as an effective political block to take on the Planet key toxic machine.

  2. Well me for a start! I don’t know anything about Marama Davidson but I certainly shall watch her with interest from now on.

    • I watched her speaking and during the debates last election; she speaks such down to earth sense in a positive way without buying into the squabbles and scandal the media loves. No put downs, just cuts thru the tired arguments of “economics first” and makes fairness, environmental cleanliness, justice and peacefulness seem obvious and attainable.

I’d even see her as PM!

  3. Well yes maybe…

I caught her on “The Nation” today and she didn’t strike me as a strong outspoken person. I also saw quite a bit of evasive answering too.

And please tell her to stop begining sentences with “so”. It is amazingly bad usage.

I still remain open to watching her but her initial appearance for me is certainly not wow…

    Is it an Auckland thing?

    • Oh well, she’s been out for a bit – let her get her stride back on I guess. hope she hasn’t tried to conform too much.
