Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Story is now in ratings meltdown.

…at some point the sponsor is just going to have to say, ‘how much are we paying for this again’? The manner in which TV3 management killed off Campbell Live for political reasons has poisoned the well from which TV3 needs to keep their ratings on top. Interesting to note that Seven Sharp has also had a steep decline. People with an education, progressives and anyone with any taste are walking away from the 7pm current affairs time slot in droves.

The rampant right wing bias of Hosking and the rampant right wing bias of Mediaworks as a company have turned those who think off. There is actually no debate on these shows any longer, it’s just people agreeing with the opinion of the host. It isn’t a debate, it’s a monologue.

The boycott of TV3 continues here.

    • The ‘campaign’ is not destroying T.V 3.
They are self destructing because they are just so appallingly bad.
With a John Key clone running the show and a John Key ‘ fan boy’ running morning propaganda and a John Key puppet running political interference, the resulting poll plummet should come as no surprise.
Remember Henry failed as a National Party candidate.
      Failed on tv1 breakfast.
      Failed in Australia.
The only thing he hasn’t failed at is being a legend in his own mind.
He’s running 1st equal with Hosking for that dubious honour!

    • Go find your own titanic iceberg!

      Your NatZ are sinking too.

      Hey martyn,

I am crying a river to see this poor quality TV slipping in the ratings.

But surely all those good Journo’s out there (present company accepted) who lost their jobs during Keyster/Joyce/Goebbels type culling of our former healthy free speech forums, is now a fervent breeding ground for the resurrection of another Channel Seven type TV channel?

    • How does a slow burning campaign to suffocate any opinion other than that approved by this government enhance democracy and make NZ a better place?

    • How does a campaign to destroy TV3 encourage people to vote left?

That’s actually a question that deserves an answer, I’d have thought, not just a string of thumbs-down

      My main point, though:
From coloured specks in washing powder to stripey toothpaste I’ve lomg noticed that competition breeds imitation. Perhaps the TVNZ 7pm programme was encouraged to be better by Campbell Live, now that’s gone they imitate the latest thing, only to find they are chasing each other down a slippery slope.

    • Iceberg – perhaps in the interests of efficiency (and making trains run on time), all media should be lumped into one and made a satrap of MoBIE, under Steven Joyce’s wise guidance?

There y’go. No more pesky dissenting voices; embarressment to our esteemed dear Leader; and leftie conspiracies.

  1. Martin, your claims are completely untrue.

According to the Nielsen data, on the 19th of August, Story had 130,460 viewers which was the lowest average audience the show has had. That is considerably lower than the data you’ve displayed and claimed is a “new ratings low”.

Of the data you show above, 7 episodes of Campbell Live from 2015 rated worse than the lowest of those numbers and 26/45 of them (58%) rated lower than the highest one.

In regards to Seven Sharp, based on all the Nielsen data, Seven Sharp has gone from 427,000 vewers per night at the start of the year, to 459,000 viewers when Campbell Live went into the review period, 546,000 while the tragic Come Dine With Me was on and now back to 489,000.

The reality is that when comparing apples to apples, Seven Sharp’s ratings are up on 2014.

However, it is nice to see that you’ve come around and are now agreeing that shows with low ratings aren’t sustainable…

    • Interesting rebuttal. However from what I’ve seen of the rubbish being served up on both 7Sharp and Story, any ratings improvement must surely represent a decline in the collective intelligence of NZ’ers.

  2. There is one thing worse that supporting Story, it is having just one choice: the I Like Mike how. After all, John Campbell is going to find a better home on Radio NZ and eventually on public TV, I don’t doubt. Do you?

Maybe it’s time to call a halt to the boycott. We will then see if it is the clarion call of the outraged Campbell Live supporters or some totally different engine which is keeping those bums on seats in front on Seven Sharp. And at the same time keeping one news show, however inadequate (how would you know if you are busy boycotting them?), on the air.

There are actually worse journalist and placebo journalists out there, as you will know if you are all watching Seven Sharp as part of your industrial action against TV3.

    • Story is nothing more than Hoskinglite. It’s supposed to look like it isn’t but it is. Would Mediaworks allow anything that questioned National? Absolutely not!

Garner whose political colours were an obvious blue leading up to last years election is a thorough going John Key/National man. So there is no choice.

  3. Yes indeed, because both ‘shows’ are junk, in every way, ‘infotainment’ trash, that fits into the ethos of the junk ‘reality’ that both channels have embraced.

  4. I agree both Seven Sharp and Story are mostly uninteresting drivel. What bright spark decided that News and Current affairs should be about the presenters rather than the news. Remember the days when people like Brian Edwards even Paul Holmes and of course John Campbell presented interesting and informative programs that questioned the status quo and in so doing provided a public service.

    • They say that most icebergs have 90% of their body sub aqua. Our iceberg has his head 100% intra rectum. Mind you iceberg might be Judith – iceberg is also cold-hearted.

  5. Both Channels are absolute crap, listening to Mike Hoskings preaching National Party propaganda makes me puke, don’t watch it anymore!!!

    State Broadcaster Yeah Right?

  6. I sometimes ponder, in my darker moments, a scenario where by ‘ They’ are sacrificing TV3 just to get rid of any and all commentary. It’s not just the axing of Campbell Live that’s the issue here, it’s that TV3 is simply awful clear across their broadcast spectrum. Literally all of it’s ‘ show’s are simply boring and uninteresting. I think there’s a bigger play going on here . TV3 exec’s just don’t care that TV 3 tanks.
After all, if they did they’d be scrambling to fix the leaks in their ratings.
And look at the other channels ? They’re equally dreadful. Boring, trite, cheap, advertising choked mishmash’s of dumb junk, and getting dumber.
    Why ?
