David Farrar’s polling must be in – Key changes his mind, takes as few refugees as he can

Key has suddenly changed his mind which means David Farrar’s polling must have come in and told him NZers are disgusted with his position on denying refugees access to NZ despite NZ having played a role in bombing the homes of those fleeing.

As per usual Key has done the tiniest amount he can get away with…

Prime Minister bows to pressure to accept more refugees
The Government will today bow to public pressure and allow hundreds more Syrian refugees to seek sanctuary in New Zealand.

…isn’t it amazing? When Key needed to ram through laws to allow pubs to stay open for the Rugby World Cup, he couldn’t move fast enough for the booze barons, yet he’s dragged his feet for as long as possible on refugees.

Let’s not forget that Key’s first inclination was to turn his back on desperate survivors in need, he has shown no leadership here, only his own political shallowness.

  1. Right again Martyn.

Farrar must be scarred that the “real polls” (not his rigged polls) are showing an awakening going on here.

Is that why he has pushed Keyster to appear again on BBC & CNBC talking up our economy again with smoke and mirrors but no body appears convinced he is telling the true facts again?

We need Stephan Thaker on “hardtalk” to run him back into his creepy little spin doctoring corner again as he did in April.

The stock market did not believe the Keyster, and today Monday 7th September is continuing it’s falls to the bottom again.

    • So Key sends troops to fight ISIS because he’s “got guts!”

Key last week refuses to take more refugees caused by ISIS because they might spoil the ‘rock-star economy and prevent tax cuts before the next election’

Farrar tells him that he should arrange to take refugees because if he doesn’t Key will be unpopular.

Key turns black into grey and decides to “cherry-pick” the most popular Syrian refugees, rather than ordinary Darfur ones, or to abide by UN refugee requirements. One commentator on the NBR article wrote:

Fact is the so called refugees are nothing more than opportunistic illegal immigrants who are queue jumping the already corrupt and broken refugee system. They ignore immediate safe haven and gamble on getting access to more generous countries. Fact is, other very rich Arab countries refuse these people so why are we [ NZ] the sucker….

Only in New Zild Only on Planet Key.

A new Planet Key flag will fix it all up, kiss it better and make it all go away before next election.

  2. +1 (right again Martyn – the polling’s in – and the hypocrisy of Key’s ancestral circumstance versus his current stance wasn’t going to be a good look.) CT and Curia were doing the quickstep trying to find a slooshun. They thought they’d better wait though for any last minute reaction from the Hoots and Robinson’s Q+A effort.

What amazes me though are the excuses being offered as to why New Zull couldn’t cope with an influx.
I’m sure (just as ONE example) that some Syrian families wouldn’t mind parking up for a while in Levin (the old Kimberly currenty in mothballs) whilst all the spin and face saving by the gummint is sorted out. (mmmm – maybe they already flogged Kimberley off already though).
Still – that was just the ONE example that immediately sprung to mind.

  3. I think if Jeremy Corbyn gets voted in as Labour Leader in the UK, it will be a sure sign that people have had enough of this Neo lib ( all for me, none for you BS ) – and then I hope the ripples spread down under!

  4. Let’s not forget that Key’s first inclination was to turn his back on desperate survivors in need, he has shown no leadership here, only his own political shallowness.

That would still be leadership – leadership in being shallow pond scum.

    • Desperate, really. Yes many are, many aren’t. Being Muslim they will come to bite the West in later years. Simple simplistic weak West. Building a stronghold in their own country would be the logical solution. Western military establishing a safe area. House them until the situation stabilizes. Once established in Western countries they demand Sharia Law. This entails suppressing women, hating gays and look upon anyone other than Muslim nothing less than an Infidel. Someone to exploit, to use, to eventually overpower. Wake up, learn the religion and it is nothing less than scary to people that enjoy freedom, freedom of expression, harmonic living.

      • No, J Ryan, not really. It is a frightening world you live in, but personally I have no wish to share your nightmares and fears.

There are bad muslims just as there are bad Jewish people and christians. I refuse to brand an entire people just as you are doing.

That was achieved in Germany in the 1930s, with horrific consequences.

Irrationality from people like you is what I find more scary than refugees looking to make a new home for themselves.

      • All religions have extremist aspects to them. There are extremist Jews, Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, stop lumping everyone in with the worst aspects of Islam.

I am an Atheist and a feminist and I have Muslim friends some of which chose to wear a hijab and some dont, guess what? they are not oppressed, they are just normal everyday people trying to get on in the world like you and me.

I dont see you expressing concerns about the Christian nutters at Gloriavale in the South Island, the girls there are required to wear scarves all the time and are married off at a young age to a man who is chosen for them by a ‘council’ of old men, where is your outcry about them?

        • The Christian nutters at Gloriavale are not conducting beheadings or being forced into marriages at 13. I don’t recall recent news stories of Buddhists, Hindu’s or Jews strapping bombs to themselves and killing innocent human beings in the name of their religion. You are an atheist and a feminist. Good for you, but I do wonder if you have ever considered how you would be treated in a muslim country if you openly expressed those views. Enjoy the privilege while you can.

  5. Thanks again Martyn for shining the light on the most elitist ” out of touch ”
Prime Minister who lives to serve his masters and to hell with us here in NZ.

His legacy will be one to be ashamed of and the sooner we can get a government in that is not beholding to the mega-corporate lobbyists, the better for us all.

I am no longer surprised at anything he says or does. Slimy greedy scumbag who is surrounded by more arrogant elitist professional blame shifters.

    • The claim that Key is ‘out of touch’ is perhaps one of the most absurd made by his detractors, and directly contradicts Martyn’s point about his responding to polling. At 51% party and 63.7% preferred PM support, one thing Key isn’t is out of touch. You continue to underestimate him at your peril.

    • Polls are shifty
      Manipulative and tricky

If uneducated sheeple vote for a train wreck then who is also ” out of touch? ”

If we defend away and blame-shift away poverty ; suffering ; homelessness ; murder/abuse and raising suicide rates etc. . . , than maybe
      ——- SOMEONE IS NOT IN TOUCH WITH SOMETHING ? ? ? ?

Owls ( born in barns ) represent spiritual wisdom and intuition and that is what I wish we had more of instead of 63.7 % precious fabricated stats of those who support an unethical liar and they are not even aware enough to check out the truths behind Jonkey and also check out a link they would never consider clicking onto and ==>> MAYBE LEARN SOMETHING.

I have put up a lot of links in the past worth a gander about Agenda 21 and Tavistock Institute and much more. Key and Obama are mere puppets.

  6. It contrasts and makes a whole mockery of sending troops back into Iraq and the whole point of the five eyes surveillance network country’s – we started it…and these refugees are the consequences.

Yet we like to be thought of as the ‘ humanitarian ‘ and peacemaking democratic crowd….

Which now seems like a front to justify the same old ruthlessness that we accuse others of.

And Key has been exposed by this .

  7. I do not know about polling by Farrar, but I had a look on Kiwiblog not long ago, where his post on the refugee number increase generated rather much anti migrant and especially anti Muslim ranting. I read many nasty comments, so the ones that frequent Kiwiblog are not at all supportive of a larger intake of refugees.

Maybe it is that overflow from the Whale’s blog, which has ended up with Kiwiblog, but also the regulars are not happy with Key on this.

So it seems Key has backed down because of media pressure, more than fearing the traditional Nat and ACT supporters. He may lose some on the right fringe, but will again appease some in that oh so important, strange “centre”.

It shows us, even though we have much social media power, the MSM still lead the sentiment of most out there in the public. It is the headline news stuff, where the scene was repeated many times, where the Turkish soldier picked up the dead little boy from Kobane out of the water on the beach, that is what got many feel a bit of a bad conscience. And the scenes of thousands getting a tough treatment in Macedonia and then Hungary, that must have shocked many, so I noticed many journalists and of course leaders of parties (except National) started to take note, and set the tone.

Social media picked up on the “news” and so it went further, the call for action, so the many otherwise self focused or xenophopic people went quiet, as they feared they may be outed as “nasty ones”.

But do not forget, among the silent majority, there will be many not happy with this, I guess it is a nation split in the middle on this. The nasty ones let off steam on Kiwiblog and Whalespew.

  8. Key is showing his fear. By bringing in as little number of refugees, Key hopes it will make him look good. By spreading the intake over the next couple of years, Key has control over the intake of innocent people, through no fault of their own, who are fleeing from a war torn country that was once their own home.
Yes, Key is waving his flag of arrogance by once again being spineless in his shallow “leadership” of a gutless “Government”.
