Herald on Sunday Editorial: Chastened Dotcom – The show’s not over
Dotcom is here because his skills and investments were once considered valuable for this country. They could yet be. He is wiser now about the country he has come to. We should let him know he can still get a fair go.
This is the same newspaper that concocted another dirty politics campaign when it claimed Donghua Liu had bought a $100 000 bottle of wine that never existed.
This is the same newspaper that called for Cunliffe to consider resigning because he forget an 11 year letter, but hasn’t made the same call for a Prime Minister whose office has been caught out initiating and organising a smear on the leader of the opposition using falsified SIS information months out from an election and fed to a far right hate speech blog.
For the Herald to come out now with their crocodile tears over Kim Dotcom after playing such an important role as the mouth piece for the establishment and dirty politics is an audacity too far.
The lack of an actually critical mainstream media is why we can’t have nice things like corruption free politics.
I’m sure you are well aware Martyn, the “Show’s not Over” for KDC but the election is over for FJK which means the Herald can pretend to play nice for a couple of years.
We still haven’t had an apology from Tim Murphy over the bogus Donghua Liu claims; nor have “more revelations” surfaced as he promised; and it eventuated that the Herald, Whaleoil, and Minister Woodhouses’ office were in cahoots over the release of the 11 year old letter.
The Donghua Liu Affair was the darkest moment for the Herald, where a patently obvious political jack-up was allowed to proceed without much question.
We should expect dishonesty from this government.

After listing various dishonest statements made by this leading paper, I think it obvious that the NZ Herald is, and has always been, printed in blue. If anything they are trying to moderate their bias, a leaf taken from the sleazy politicians they endorse.
They know they can’t swing right forever – they’re trying to munt the counterswing by endorsing Little – same thing they tried with Shane Jones but he lacked any kind of appeal.
Key is well past his use-by date and Brownlee is so rancid Key probably mistakes him for Whaleoil. With no positive economic news on the horizon this government is sleepwalking towards the kind of trouncing it would have met last election without the strenuous efforts of the corrupt MSM.
I hope we can get rid of JK and keep Kim dot com,we would all be better off. Better to have Dot Com as pm,at least he wouldn’t conspire against as JK has done.

I wonder how many people take the media in this country seriously anymore.
Two weeks ago two papers solicited our household to subscribe to their papers. One by phone, the other by a free sample which was incredibly trivial in content. All seemed a desperate attempt to do business.
Can I ask a few small questions ? Given the events of the last few months clearly showing up jonky as a very dangerous entity to have as a prime minister of a cage full of chickens much less of New Zealand, where the fuck is our Governor General ? What are his thoughts on the bloodless coup we’ve just experienced ? Since he’s fucked off to god only knows where , are we now open to invasion and attack from everything and everyone not re excluding alien armada’s ? The nz herald isn’t a news paper,its worth is in wrapping up chips only . Were in deep shit.
The whole case against KDC is bogus. This lawsuit of ‘copyright infringement’ has already been played (and won) out in the US courts when Viacom the 5th largest broadcasting and cable company in terms of revenue sued Google over You tube. Google/You tube won because a file sharing site does not constitute copyright infringement. Here is the ruling.

The fear of KDC is not to do with file sharing at all but because MegaUpload was planning to create a direct peer to peer site for artists so they could directly sell their work and mega got a percentage of the downloads. That would have eroded the hold the Music/Film Media industry has on artists if they could sell their work directly and easily on a file sharing site.
Instead they Warners and co have got this put on hold as they orchestrate litigation to KDC for years over various claims so he is unable to continue this project. (which would have been fantastic for artists). So the threat of KDC its that he has the ability to decouple artists from MSM. However this will eventually happen anyway but I guess the MSM want to have time to develop this concept themselves.
Like tobacco Media can only ‘dominate’ so long and then it all catches up with them. Like Tobacco they have many lobby groups and players in their pocket and were heavy on the litigation to keep those profits flowing as long as they could.
Funny enough it was Hollywood agents that denied those emails in MOT. But how does that make it invalid?
Anyway I say again I would love to see Taika Waititi make the movie! The little guy against Big business. And there is even the downfall of Hone Harawira and the far North as part of the story. And maybe the downfall of John Key when he reached to far with Cameron Slater which is still playing out. Will John Key, GCSB and Warners put KDC in prison (for no proven charges) – today – we wait to find out. Let’s see what sort of justice we are having in NZ. Is justice eroded in this country
