So Key will destroy the Moto bridge near Gisborne to save the Moto bridge near Gisborne? Spending $100 000 fixing a bridge only to spend another $5million to destroy the bridge makes about as much sense as selling our national assets to build pork barrel roads for farmers.

The sheer audacity of blowing all this money on roads while National lecture Labour on any perceived lolly scrambles in social spending is a double standard that the media should be in a feeding frenzy over.

Yet they aren’t.

How come a fictional bottle of $100 000 wine is able to generate more attention than Key privatising our assets for his farmer mates infrastructure wish list at the detriment of the rest of us?

This is a government for the rich, by the rich in the interests of the rich.

  1. Once upon a time there was a railway to the area – letalone the one to Gisborne from the South. It was haflway to ‘the North’ and NZ’s largest port. How much of this wastage and proposed expenditure would it take to restore that Gisborne railway link?. I think there could be a surplus! (One bean + one bean + one bean + one bean plus …… = ?)

    • I was just thinking about that… trying to come up with a witty dig about the Nats spending hundreds of millions to rebuild the Motu Branch without spending the few million to reopen the Gisborne-Napier Line… but rebuilding an isolated branch line is the sort of stupidity the Nats would revel in, so I didn’t want to give them ideas 😉

  2. So this is being funded out of asset sale money, what about the hospitals and schools they promised?

    • No you see Mark, the hospitals and schools are definitely be paid for from asset sales – it’s just that this bridge is being funded by the hospital and school budgets…

    • @Mark – Johnny boy won’t recall stating that the proceeds from the stolen asset sales, will go towards improving our education and health systems!

If this is the best National can come up with over a weekend conference, to serve NZ for the future, given more important issues afflicting the country need addressing such as poverty, employment, housing etc, then they must be voted out in September.

Bring on the election and rid NZ of the blight of this Key led government!

  3. Oh stop yer moaning, you lot!..why I distinctly remember Jonkey saying National would create another 200,000 new jobs…well…

We cant moan about a bicycle path that employed 200 now, can we?

Perhaps that ‘s this Govts plan for cutting energy costs for the rest of us who aren’t farmers …

Maybe he plans to build lots and lots of bicycle paths all around the country and have us all in work gangs to create all those jobs.

And maybe that ‘s Nationals answer to the climate change- get ’em all riding bicycles =]]

Heehaw …Heehaw….HeeHAW…..hope it works…wouldn’t want Mr Jonkey makin’ an ass of himself , now , would we….

  4. This is just National being true to form.
    No vision .
    No imagination.
No deep understanding of cost verse intrinsic value.
    Just cynical, callous, conniving, Klutzes.
Their is a market gardening industry in the Gisborne region with huge potential to expand but Nationals’ blind myopic ideology refuses to recognise or help any regional industry outside of dairy.
If the train track that was washed out awhile back, was compromising the dairy industry, it would have been fixed immediately and without question.
Making their quarterly returns look good is the end all and be all.
    How very corporate of them!
Thinking 12 weeks ahead .Yep real masters of the economy.
Forget about a washed out railway line. Our country is well on its way to becoming a major train wreck!

  5. Why do we pay taxes when everything is user pays?

Is it just so IRD can pay wages to themselves?
Or so the government can buy themselves new cars?
    Or build new private prisons?
Or to pay the new consultant elite for telling them what to say and when to say it?
Or to fund our overseas owned farms?
Or is Key slipping our tax money into his own private bank?
Why are fuel prices going up when we have our own oil?
Why do we pay roading levies in our rates, and to ACC, and in our fuel tax?
Why do we pay for an ambulance?
Why do we have student loans?
Why aren’t convicted paedophiles named and shamed?
Why does the rape of a child have less prison time than the rape of an adult?
Why does NZ have 280k children living BELOW the poverty line, when millions of dollars have been paid to consultants to do enquiries into this subject?
Why is the content of the TPPA such a big fat secret?
Why are 150k Chinese moving to Northland?
Why do people watch TV when they know it’s a propaganda machine?
Why do we have a Human Rights Commission when they won’t accept any work?
Why do we have an Ombudsman when he won’t accept any work that might involve a tiny bit of investigation?
Why do some policemen rape and get away with it?
Why do lawyers charge so much?
    Why isn’t dental care subsidised?
Why does John Key tell so many lies, over and over again?
Why do psychopaths employ other psychopaths to run their corporations?
Why do we accept sociopaths as our politicians?
Why can’t we all have a taser?
Why is John Key our primeminister?

    Opinion.

  6. Ok Martyn . Lets take out Farmer money and see how many fucking roads you have . Lets take out farmer earned export money , farmer effort and farmer endeavour altogether and see how fucking far you can drive anywhere .
When I read snipes like the above about the Farmer here on TDB I realise that I fall between the cracks of fraud , stupidity and hypocrisy . You are stupid and hypocritical and cling to a mythical Left as if you and they are squeaky clean and it’s terribly Tree Hug to sling shit at the hand that feeds you fuckers . Then the Right parasitises the Farmer , fucks with their lives , bleeds them out but then sucks their cocks for a dollar when the going gets short of cheap farmer money .
Your lack of grace and your lack of understanding for where our countries money comes from and the swindle that is Nationals cosseting up to people who farm our land who would otherwise not get a look in at the National Party Piss up is depressing , disturbing and sad for me .
The falling sensation I experience is knowing these things . I know National would drop farming people like a hot turd if robots could farm instead . Labour would congratulate themselves for seeing off the beastly filthy farmer too , until your guts started to rumble . Fucking hypocrites the lot of you ! Worse still ? You’re just fucking stupid . Dumb as clay . You’re being played like suckers by both sides . You lay claim to being a journalist and level severe criticism against those who fall short of your professional expectations and yet you repeatedly make stupid , ignorant statements re Farmers based on your laziness and assumption . Get off your arse and do your job Martyn . Talk to Farmers about their lives and of how they’re constantly living in fear . And I don’t mean those select few Queen Street Cockies who traitorously sell out their own either .
