Headline: Earthquake funding, a no brainer
Everyone can now breathe a sigh of relief the Government has finally decided to continue funding the Earthquake Support Coordination Service and the Temporary Accommodation Service (CETAS), says Labour’s MP for Christchurch East Poto Williams.
“It’s an absolute no brainer in my book for the Government to decide in a pre-Budget announcement to fund these services.
“Providers must be relieved the help for hundreds of people can continue, despite the Government being asked for certainty many months ago. The NGOs, who have to retain staff and manage their budgets, have been badgering the Ministry of Social Development to commit to the continued services.
“I could be cynical and say that one week out from the Budget, it now looks like blatant political expediency for the Government to commit to these services.
“I am pleased they saw sense. These services are critical for the reconstruction of Christchurch.”
