Hooton hears a what?

The moral shepherd of the Right and Architect of the Death Star, Matthew Hooton, is suggesting that Shane Jones’ recent attacks on the Greens and Countdown grand standing is a move to find a means of being kicked out of Labour so that he can walk over to NZ First.

Winston is 72 now, wearing his age, looking sicker and needing an heir apparent. It was going to be John Tamihere, but Waitakere as a seat evaporated and John managed to shoot both his mouth and legs off in an offensively ignorant  manner on a topic as raw and red hot as rape culture.

Shane Jones’ bloke routine fills Winston’s requirements perfectly for such a teaming up. If Jones was allowed to run in the Maori electorate seat of Tāmaki Makaurau, NZ First could get an electorate seat as well, problem is Winston has always called for the Maori seats to be abolished, so that gets ruled out.

NZ First are in trouble. Beyond the notable exception of Tracey Martin, they are a collection of political  circus freaks. If NZ First can have a future it is with a similar charismatic cult leader demagogue, which makes Jones look like such a great candidate.

Problem is, this is more Hooton hoping than thinking. I saw Shane Jones recently at the Auckland University Debating Society Political Debate and he was bored, boring and dismissive. Shane is simply too lazy to be this active to get kicked out of the Labour Party. For more likely is a fear setting in within those who have no interest seeing Cunliffe win deciding the best outcome is attack the Greens and take as much off them as possible and hope to get a mid 30s at the election and build towards 2017.

That’s the way a lazy man plans a coup.

Hooton’s mischief making however is significant as it suggests Hooton knows the polls are far closer than the perception. His attempt to fly such an idea publicly reeks of worry.

  1. Either you have aged Winston a bit, or you mean that he will be 72 by the end of the next parliamentary term. He was born in 1945 and will turn 69 in a couple of week’s time.

    • What Matthew is really trying to say to the great unwashed who think the 6.00 O’clock news is serious journalism, (sorry, the Mike and Hillary Show) and who may be considering voting this year, is in 2045 Winston will be 100 years old and that’s really old to be running a political party.

And if I were an imbecile I’d buy into his sly innuendo and hopefully for him not vote. He’s quite clever and really sneaky that Matthew!

  2. Why do National need to go to the extremes they are at the moment with stories if polls werent worrying? Is it true they have round table meetings thinking up more bullshit to feed the public?

I would like to know how much input Hooton had in regards to the Tricky Campaign, both strategising or advising and or supplying material/script.

Like this latest lie that had virtually no substance either.

And its not hard to conclude that Nationals chances are built on sand, not the least of which is the shadowy way they go about things and makes me wonder just what else is just below the woodwork? But also because they have achieved so little when you critically look at their 5 and half year tenure.

They are massaging the media and calling in all favours currently to smear Cunliffe so that if the curtain is pulled and more of Nationals dirty deeds he will be gone anyway.

Hootens latest bit of fantasy is aimed squarely public who he thinks are thick. And its getting predictable.

  3. I have no time for Hooten, and I very much doubt this is for real. But watching Jones’s face the other night alongside Cunliffe (when DC was trying to convince the public the Labour caucus was united) shows there is some very real angst between the two. This is a party in serious trouble.

    • In a strange, alternate reality kind of way, I agree with IV on this one. I saw the segment he was referring to. I don’t belong to any political party, but if I was in Labour, I’d be worried about Jones. He’s a loose cannon, not a team player, and clearly likes the limelight, and doesn’t care if he steals it at Cunliffe’s expense. It’s not going to end happily, unless somebody deals to Shane and pulls him into line.

    • Let me get this right intrinsicvalue…Shane Jones’ face is your evidence that there is angst between him and Cunliffe?

Shane Jones’ face makes him look like he’s in a constant state of angst with his own existence, which he probably is.

    • All your RW mates have serious time for Hooten.

Maybe YOU are the one with a problem.

      Just sayin’…

  4. I admire Jones for his style and charisma. He is developing the appearance of someone relevant that Cunliffe is struggling with. Here’s hoping it is just a sophisticated ruse. All leaders need to win over the electorate somehow. As far as Jones goes, the sad thing is, as much as he tries Jones will always be a pariah to a large percentage of the electorate, PM is out of his pay grade. Pay for your own porn, should be a golden rule for politicians by now. Foolish man. He’ll be ok though Ngapuhi will have him back, and they’ll be lucky to have him. He might miss squawking around parliament like a baby seagull though.
