Headline: Amy Adams must act on Tukituki inquiry request
Environment Minister Amy Adams must grant an extension into the hearings over the controversial Ruataniwha Dam, says Labour’s Water spokesperson Meka Whaitiri.
“Ms Adams has to take the Board of Inquiry’s request seriously after 28 days of hearings. The Board has requested an extension of the time they need before they issue their final decision.
“We are talking about a month’s extension to May the 28th before they report back on the $265 million dollar project.
“Given the board has made it clear they need the extra time to consider the proposal I would be surprised if the Minster doesn’t treat the request urgently considering the complexity and importance of this project.
“Adding to the Ms Adam’s problems is the report that Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated are considering a legal challenge over the scientific evidence.
“I think it is really encouraging that the objectors have scored a small but significant victory in getting the Board of Inquiry to request this delay. It would be extremely disappointing if this was ignored.”
