  1. Collins is catty & her snarky unnecessary digs at others will be her downfall.

But Tolley’s comment was spot on in many ways. Sure Tueri lives in quite a modest house & by all accounts appears to try & personify the idealism the Greens throw about. But she is still a hypocrite. She says she is against mining yet clearly enjoys the benefits of it happening in other countries (jewellery, technology etc) & despite being on the low end of the high income scale, she wears couture & claims it is justified because only high fashion tailors jackets to properly fit larger women. Not true. Sure you’d have to go somewhere other than Farmers or Glassond, but you don’t have to go high fashion boutique. She is on a good wage so I think she should be able to enjoy the lifestyle that wage affords, but couture for a socialist is pushing it. $2000 jackets…yep she has a few, us excessive.

This jacket gate debacle is the same scenario as speeding feral slater versus the West Coast speeding ferals (his & your words not mine).

It isn’t that Tolley et al don’t care about poverty, it is about Turei claiming to have the moral high ground against their so-called excesses & that of their “rich mates” when she is guilty of the same. She is trying to convince them & us that the rich should only keep what they need & give the rest away, that the rich should pay more taxes so the poor can live better lives yet here she is spending a good $10,000 on merely 5 jackets. It’s just wrong. Key’s wife can spend that kind of money on clothes & so she should – he earned it & she paid the price re bringing up kids on her own while he worked ridiculous hours. Turei hasn’t earned that kind of money – her brief work as a lawyer (advocate for beneficiaries & unemployed) before becoming a public servant would hardly have brought in the big dollars.

So it comes down to perception. The National Party doesn’t profess to support the same ideals as the Greens & further most were financially successful before they entered parliament (excluding the career pollies). So whether it’s excess speed or excess materialism both show a lack of understanding cause & effect, but to demand others meet a higher standard than you are meeting yourself well, that really is just hypocritical.

  2. So what you’re saying is, if a woman overspends on any single clothing item, she has no right to talk about poverty?

Try telling that to any woman who ever got married. Those white frocks aren’t cheap.
