Headline: Let RSA choose which New Zealand flag to fly
Labour is supporting suggestions a referendum be held to determine whether the New Zealand flag should be changed.
Labour’s Internal Affairs spokesperson Trevor Mallard says the time has come for a change.
“It is right for the issue to be put to the public.
“I would however support the ability of the RSA and similar organisations to continue to fly the current flag if they so wish.
“We changed our national anthem from ‘God Save the Queen’ on a gradual, optional basis and I think that process worked,” Trevor Mallard says.
