Right! Big important thing to be aware of this week is of course the Day of Action which has been called for against Rape Culture in the wake of the Roast Busters idiocy. It’s happening at major centers around the country which are listed below, if you can’t see one for your town, think about setting up your own event. If you do that, or know of events happening elsewhere, please link to them below.

So far, those that I know of are:

Auckland: 2pm at QE2 Square Britomart

Wellington: 2pm at the Bucket Fountain

Christchurch: 12 pm (Walking from the Bridge of Rememberence through the Container Mall to The Square)

Dunedin:11 am at the Museum lawn

Palmerston North: 2pm at the Square

Hamilton: 7.30pm at Garden Place

Throughout the week, the Oil Free Seas flotilla is embarking on it’s voyage into the Tasman where it will demonstrate against Deep Sea Drilling and the removal of the right to protest at sea.  People from all walks of life are heading out in their boats from all over New Zealand including, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Kaikoura, Opua and Bluff. Head down and send the boats of with a bit of fan fair. Details are all listed here.

The Greens have been busy with their Communities Against Mining Tour of the North Island throughout the last week. It’s concluding on Monday night in Auckland. MP Catherine Delahunty and John Krey of Bulga, Australia will be speaking. John will be telling the story of his community’s fight against Rio Tinto an Catherine will be discussing defending our communities against mining. It’ll be kicking off at 5.30pm at the Green Party Office (17 Mercury Lane, Newton, Auckland City).

 

Other things to not forget:

-The Show Me Shorts Film Festival continues this week all around NZ.

Wicked is still playing and is totally….wicked

-It’s the Orangutan Caring Week at the Zoo and there are lots of encounters and fun activities (including The Great Ape Race of Thursday night)

-If you’re a foodie, then Taste is on this weekend

-The Parnell Festival of Roses is also happening this weekend. There are fairy trails, music, talks from the Bugman as well as food and market stalls.
