Headline: Labour pays tribute to rugby icon

Labour offers its condolences to the family of Susuga Papaliitele Peter Fatialofa, who passed away in Samoa this morning.

“We want to convey our sincerest sympathies and condolences to his wife Anne, their children and grand-children, and members of their extended family in both New Zealand and Samoa,” Pacific Island Affairs spokesperson Su’a William Sio said.

“He was a close personal friend and a friend of the Labour Party. Standing as a Labour candidate, he won a place on the Manurewa Community Board in 2004.

“He will be sorely missed by many in Samoa, New Zealand and across the Pacific,” Su’a William Sio said.

Labour’s Sport and Recreation spokesperson, Trevor Mallard, said ‘Fats’ was an icon not only in Auckland rugby, but throughout the country.  His status among the Pacific community was legendary.

“Peter sacrificed much to support a game he loved with passion. He will be greatly missed.”
