How much damage can one Police force cause one family?

It’s hard to imagine the NZ Police can damage the Naitoko family any more than they can.

It’s hard.

You would think that after accidentally shooting Halatau dead in cold blood, the Police would be a wee bit more considerate.

You would think that after accidentally over looking providing Halatau Naitoko’s wife with any resource to cover the costs of attending the official inquest, the police would be a wee bit more considerate.

You would think after telling Halatau Naitoko’s mother that the compensation package was so secret, that SHE COULDN’T EVEN TELL HER LAWYER that the Police would be a wee bit more considerate.

Well surprise surprise, after all that, the NZ Police end up ‘accidentally’ leaking all those compensation details to the media.

How much pain and suffering must the NZ Police force upon one family?

Talking of pain and suffering, the NZer the Police ‘accidentally’ shot in the back has no ability to discuss what has happened to him. Disturbingly in that case the Police have instructed the St Johns Ambulance attendees to not talk to the media about that case. Oh and we still have any idea about the Adam Morehu case, who was shot twice in the back after a Golf Club robbery.

IPCA don’t have the funding for proper investigations and seem toothless to rein Police over-reaction into line. The NZ public are fed pro-authority cop shows that paint the Police in a positive light at all times so that a culture of authority worship replaces one of check and balance scrutiny.

None of this will change until the NZ Police start treating white middle class kids with the same contempt they treat brown poor ones with.

  1. Quoting from the article:

‘seem toothless to reign Police over-reaction into line’

Sorry to be pedantic, but many people confuse the words ‘reign’ and ‘rein’ these days. ‘Reign’ is obviously about ruling a country, whereas to ‘rein in’ derives from the use of leather straps called ‘reins’ designed to slow down an equine.

    • When talking about the police (as, indeed, any authoritarian establishment) it’s easy to get confused………..

  2. So they shot the guy in the back and paid the family 200k. Sorry but his life was worth more than that – bugger the money. The value of his life was worth more than money and these p*&^s keep sticking the knife into his family.

Our police are heartless and cold – they are unprofessional and up themselves. They protect and server – self interest.

  3. I have heard all about how the NZ Police is full of racists and bigots from one of their own – it was only a matter of time before their ‘inner voice’ became their ‘outside voice’ and exposed to the public the sickness from within
