Headline: Forestry deaths

Too many young forestry workers are being seriously injured – or killed – at work.

But soon a special group of MPs could decide to protect them. They’re thinking about launching a historic inquiry into forestry safety because of those of you who signed our earlier petition calling for an inquiry. The inquiry could finally get to the bottom of why these deaths and injuries happen, and make recommendations to help keep workers safe. Together with the families of forestry workers, we’ve pushed for this inquiry before. But this time our chances are better than ever. Story after story in the media about horrific injuries and senseless forestry deaths has added to the pressure on MPs to act. One final push could get us across the line. Can you send a short email to the MPs now, telling them it’s time to take real action on forestry safety?

You might doubt that an inquiry can make a difference. But Canada held a similar one in 2008 and as a result forestry accidents have markedly decreased. The same result here could stop hundreds of preventable injuries and several deaths every year. Too many forestry families are losing loved ones unnecessarily. Let’s tell MPs it’s time to act.

Some people in the forestry industry support holding an inquiry, others won’t want a light shined on dodgy work practices, and behind the scenes they’ll be asking MPs not to proceed. For too long they’ve profited at the expense of worker safety. But the MPs have to listen to us too after all we’re the ones who vote for them! A flood of emails from us at this crucial moment could make all the difference.

Click here to get started now and tell MPs to launch an inquiry to protect workers.

Thanks for being involved, and for standing with forestry workers.
