Headline: Nats put drug dealers’ profits over dogs
National cares more about ensuring the profits of drug dealers than they do about animal welfare, says Labour’s Shadow Leader of the House Trevor Mallard.
His comments follow the Government blocking a motion in Parliament this afternoon.
“My motion would have allowed the Health select committee to ensure that information from animal testing could not be used in approving Psychoactive Drugs for sale.
“Every rational New Zealander knows it is wrong to kill dogs to test ‘legal highs’ yet National is insisting that it be allowed. They have no sense of ethics whatsoever,” said Trevor Mallard.
The motion blocked by the Government today was “that the Health Committee in its consideration of the Psychoactive Substances Bill, have the authority to consider and if it sees fit adopt, amendments preventing the use of information resulting from animal testing being used in the consideration of specific substances for approval.”
