Classic Dancing Cossack Communism Fear Mongering electoral advert (little has changed)

  1. I’m old enough to recall that ad being on telly. It raised a hell of a fuss and was evidently withdrawn from broadcasting pretty smartly after it’s first airing – but not before it did it’s damage and a naive, gullible section of the public voted for Muldoon.

The rest, as they say, is history, and Muldoon canned the Superannuation Fund the following year in 1976.

We all got our money back. I think (going purely by memory) I got something like $20 back.

Had this nation been a little more sophisticated and not so prone to being herded like bloody sheep, according to Brian Gaynor in 2007, we’d have over $240 billion saved by now.

And now it’s being repeated all over again with state asset sales.

The gall of the Rightwing to accuse the Left of “economic sabotage” is unbelievable.
