Yeah but…..didn’t Bob Hawke -the former Union PM of Australia- say something like “pay rises should be in conjunction with productivity gains” ? Didn’t he sign an accord about that in the mid 80’s?
I think he probably did as Unionists in Australia get paid more!
Which means that businesses in NZ have to become ‘meaner and leaner’ via the use of technology and systems for NZ Unionists to get pay rises. In other words – unionists have to increase their productivity.
Or do you simply think that employers will be competetive in international markets producing products and services more inefficiently?
