The Machiavellian horror of Trump’s ‘American carnage’

Historians will look at Trump’s blistering venom of a speech as a turning point in history. The naked rage of perceived lost privilege mixed with neoliberal economic dislocation has given Trump a platform to spin his violent fantasy of America

“But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge; and the crime and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.”

…This American carnage.

This.

American.

Carnage.

Liberals. Elites, Academics, Women, Politicians, Celebrities, Men, Activists, LGBTQ communities, white, black, Asian, migrant, hispanic, teenagers, children and most pets – pretty much most sentient life – has been quick to denounce this apocalyptic political vision.

It is as horrific as it is Machiavellian genius.

For those who have seen their jobs and factories shipped offshore, for those who don’t have the educational opportunities to skill up, for those who compete for work with cheaper migrant labour, for those who have suffered from drugs and crime that breed in this economic wasteland, for those who have to join the Military because there is no other opportunities – FOR THEM, this has been an American Carnage.

He is speaking to the 30% of America that he needs to keep. He will strip billions from the Military Industrial Complex and drop it into infrastructure and building throughout the rust belt that he needs if he is to get a second term.

Trump’s spitting in the face of the establishment while they were all forced to sit there and listen to him tells us that he has no intention of changing his style and the cavalcade of mutant political freaks he’s appointed to his Cabinet tells us that he has every chance of becoming a dangerously destabilising threat to the planet.

This speech was to his devotees and it was a direct threat to the Republican Party itself that if they don’t let him do what he wants, he’ll blame them and hurt them at the Mid-Term elections in 2 years time.

  1. “He will strip billions from the Military Industrial Complex and drop it into infrastructure and building throughout the rust belt that he needs if he is to get a second term.”

No he won’t. The military industrial complex is the what keeps the United States going economically. After all, it supplies half of the world’s arms spending.

    • Agreed, Pineapple. Trump has stated this on so many occassions that no one can say they weren’t aware of it. Trump is going to plow billions into his military-industrial complex, and that will ratchet up tensions beteen the US and China.

Just today he said that there will be a freeze on Federal hiring of new staff, EXCEPT FOR THE MILITARY!!!

So what is Trump planning to do with an expanded military? Order them into a circle to hold hands and sing kumbaya?????

People need to get a grip on reality. Trump is a fascist and history shows us what fascists (Bush, Blair, Thatcher, Mussolini, Hitler, etc) do well. They start wars.

  2. Been avoiding commenting on political sites for the last few months, but that image is just too much! This is what happens when now POTUS Trump gets near an actual eagle:

The bit that seems most telling is at the 12s mark. Where he asks the (male) animal handler if his hair is alright, then blurts out; “watch it there sweetheart”, when the guy actually dares to smooth down a tuft of the combover.

That said, I don’t disagree with Bradbury’s analysis of the speech. Trump has certainly mastered the art of talking through rather than to the media.

  3. I’m actually blown away. We’ve never seen a POTUS move markets like Trump since WW2. Instead of building Walls and factories in his first year which aren’t going to come until well into his second year and possible after a 4th, if you read any of the proposal.

It looks like, instead of building walls and factories he’s manipulating share prices down with his tweets and taking the discount. And then investing taxe payer funds into things ect. I still can’t reconcile this with Republican climate policy.

After skim reading through a few proposals. I’m a 100% certain that if a hundred green peace or greenies from the US wrote a solid proposals at least one would get through.

The take away is Trumps got shit tons of money looking for a nice home and not enough proposals to fill.

  4. “He will strip billions from the Military Industrial Complex and drop it into infrastructure and building throughout the rust belt that he needs if he is to get a second term.”… “Trump’s spitting in the face of the establishment…”

You spin this like it is somehow a BAD thing??? Colour me confused, but isn’t this the exact sort of thing TDB has been Trumpeting for since its inception???

  5. Thanking you for a picture of their leader that has clothes on. Whew!

And the eagle still has a feather to fly with! Wow. I wonder for how long…

I don’t get why you’re so insistent on grafting the ‘loss of privilege’ narrative onto this perfectly compelling summary of Amexit. I do think that Americans facing these issues find identity politics a bit ‘deckchairs on the Titanic’, but the idea that they are hateful about it is really off base. Some are out there, but white nationalists are a scattered handful of nobodies. They weren’t a winning margin. We know that the rust belt voters who turned out en masse for Obama twice switched to Trump. Do you contend they all suddenly went racist and anti LGBTQ? It’s silly, and in its own way, its racist. These rust belt and flyover state voters backed Obama and believed in him, and now they’re backing a different horse because he didn’t come through for them. That’s really all there is for the American left to learn. I guess they do have to go through all 5 stages though…

  7. Here’s a rundown from William Mount. So far for Trump the rating is EXCELLENT! http://drwilliammount.blogspot.co.nz/2017/01/pres-trump-strikes-at-heart-of-beast.html
As I recall (and I must find the link) Trump has 120 days from inauguration before new elections should be called for a multitude of reasons. My take is that he plans to put himself forward as a candidate in the hope of being elected as the FIRST PRESIDENT of the Republic of the United States of America. But that’s just my take on his go get ’em attitude. Go Trump!
