Sanders’ train still picking up speed

The Bernie for President train is still picking up speed. People are still flocking to his rallies: 10,000 in San Diego on Tuesday. His vote is growing despite pundits saying he has no chance. His stunning wins over Hillary Clinton in Utah (79% to 20%) and Idaho (78% to 21%) meant that even with a loss in Arizona he came out of Tuesday with a net gain of 22 delegates.

Sanders may win big in the next five primaries (Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming) which should set him up for April 19 in New York.

Of course, with the Democrat and media establishment lined up against him, it is still going to be hard for Sanders to win the nomination.

The Democratic Party grandees are banking on Sanders losing the race and his supporters falling in behind Hillary – if the only alternative is Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. But it won’t be easy to convince the young “Bernie or Bust” radicals to put a tick beside Hillary’s name. She is a quintessential establishment figure, trusted by corporate American and hawkish in her foreign policy.

Clinton’s speech last Monday to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee was a shocker. She wanted the US to provide more sophisticated missiles to Israel; she smeared the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement as anti-Semitic; and then said “one of the first things I’ll do in office is invite Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] t visit the White House.”

Bernie Sanders’ speech in Salt Lake City the same day was a good counterpoint. He criticised Israeli settlements on the West Bank and condemned “[Israel’s] bombing of hospitals, schools and refugee camps”. “Peace will also mean ending the economic blockade of Gaza,” Sanders said.

Any Democrat who is truly worried about Trump becoming President should be backing Sanders. The last five national polls put Sanders beating Trump by a big margin, averaging 16%. Clinton also beats Trump, but by five points less, at 11%. An establishment-supported figure like Hillary Clinton is not the best person to beat Donald Trump, as some of Trump’s Republican challengers have already discovered. Sanders also has an 8% margin over Ted Cruz, whereas Clinton has only a 2% margin.

  1. Great post +100.

Scary stuff – with Hillary adding more missiles to Israel and don’t think Sanders supporters are going to tick Hillary, leading Trump to win the US elections.

Lets just hope we get some world sanity and Sanders wins!

      • NC lawmakers have simply exercised common sense. The ‘rights’ the LGBTQ community were given amounted to special sector privilege, and have no place in society.

        • What are you saying? That it is okay to discriminate against people because on sexual or gender grounds?
A bearded totally male looking transgender now has to use the female toilets as his birth certificate shows him as having been born female. What a joke, a nasty joke,

          • It’s not discrimination, it’s common sense. Providing, eg, three toilet options to cater for a tiny minority is simply not financially sensible or fair on the vast majority.

          • No Sam, comments like that are why I am part of the mainstream who call bs on this special treatment for a single and tiny sector.

            • Don’t forget that in Galileo’s day, the mainstream insisted that the sun revolved around the Earth, and considered themselves to be the ones “calling bullshit.” Being in the majority doesn’t necessarily mean you’re right.

  2. Bernie Sanders has some serious problems
He doesn’t have a foul mouth
He doesn’t seem to be able to incite to the verge of rioting or even look like he want to
    He is far too sane
He has not created an “enigmatic” vibe for himself by shape-shifting so that people have to keep guessing as to what it is he is really about
He doesn’t leave it the imagination as to what is really on the top of his head
He is nowhere near orange or establishment enough
He will probably deny Americans the fun of all out war

Once you take these things into account you can clearly see that………..Oh wait

  3. We would all like to see Bernie win but sorry to be so realistic and a bit negative in stating that I now believe that the US elections are rigged by the corporate entities that own most politicians in Wash. DC.
( They also own and dictate to most governments in the world )
Their agenda will play out above what the majority of the US citizens want or vote for. Rigged to the hilt.

Hillary will win because she was planned to win long ago and they will make sure she gets in. No matter what it takes, the criminal Bush/Clinton families and their corporate crims on Hillarys above jacket ( nice creative touch ) will move back into the white house in January. They would never allow someone like Trump or Bernie to get into power and they have the means and ways to get their wishes met. Corporate greed is the hash tag.

Check out the latest book called — ” Jeb Bush and the Criminal Bush Family ”
and also the link below with Ralph Nader spelling it all out about the corporate rigged U.S. elections.

    • See. There you go again with your right wing dribble. Honestly Blake. You really need to check that love affair you have with right wing propoganda

      • I am SO ! far from being right wing that it is laughable to read your dribble in denial. Get aware Sam and stop discounting and discrediting the messengers. Just because you disagree, does not make any of what we affirm to be untrue.
Yes – Sam it is msm right wing propaganda and mind control that we are up against and want to expose. I am all about and have been for a very long time, into exposing the right wing BS and propaganda.
Do more research. Calling me right wing just shows ignorance.

  4. The pundits are corporate lapdogs of course right Keith?

We think he is a clear vision man that just is to sane for the war mongers’.

  5. Keeping things interesting for sure – probable outcomes if each becomes president. Trump = war, Clinton = war, Sanders = peace.
Simple really. What do want America?

  6. The Americans want a warmonger as their leader, Hillary is keen for another fight and Trump and Cruz can’t wait to get their hands on the Nuclear Buttons?

    • Wish it were up to the American voters to decide but that is an illusion.
The greedy banksters and criminal corporations own most governments and they have already decided who will be the next US president and it will be
the upper 1 % lying corporate princess and war monger Hillary Clinton.

  7. With Hillary we get an acceleration of “shock doctrine” ..http://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/the_shock_doctrine_2009/

Roger Douglas used it on NZ when muldoon and the nats had left our country in a terrible mess …..

The Tppa is an attempt to cement it in globally with its ‘corporate rights’ and special kangaroo courts where corporations get to sue governments….

Hillary will U turn and support it if she becomes president.

Sanders would be better for the american people ………. and better for the world.

  8. There is something wrong with a political system that ensures that only a person who belongs to one of the two mega parties supported by mega millions of dollars has any chance of winning arguably the world’s most influential political job.
The president is chosen by the establishment, the corporations, the 1% and the flapper-style party conventions.
The people are just rubber stamp value.

  9. Bernie Sanders is far more intelligent than almost anyone gives him credit for, and he is very well aware of his options and strategies. It is very important not to see this campaign in only 2 dimensions. Expect him always to do the unexpected.

Bernie Sanders has raised much more money than HRC, and done it from individuals, not corporations. His campaign list has *millions* of names, a very large proportion of whom are activists and volunteers. And since they are young, Bernie Sanders can rightly claim an ideological influence over the entire next generation of American voters. This is almost unprecedented.

This campaign is far from over. Even if Bernie loses the nomination, it’s not over. The Establishment may well *wish* it was over! But actually losing the nomination will free Bernie up to do something even more powerful than winning the Presidency, if you can imagine it.

I predict that Bernie may concede the nomination if forced, but if so, he will immediately refocus the incredible grassroots political machine he has built to the vital task of securing the election of potentially hundreds of freshman “Berniecrat” Dems in Congress. All 435 seats in the House are up for re-election this year, the entire House, plus 1/3 of the Senate are on the table.

Bernie knows that while the office of President is extremely powerful, the Executive branch is basically hog-tied by Congress in the current circumstance. Even if he won, Bernie would be as helpless as Obama.

But heavily cashed up, and already working to fever pitch, Bernie and his machine can actually shrug off the “loss” of the nomination, and immediately pivot, to concentrate on Congressional elections, ignoring the Presidential race, and effectively sacrificing it in a much more valuable gambit.

Think about it; Hillary can be President, but if Bernie had his way, she would be President before a Congress held by a Social Democratic majority made up of newly minted Berniecrats. She would be reduced to a figurehead, while this newly renovated Congress would give Bernie’s ideas the legislative venue he’s always dreamed of. As one anti-Wall Street/pro-Main Street Bill after another is sent up to the White House for Hillary to sign, all she and her Corporate Sponsors can do is grind their teeth in helpless rage.

For Hillary, it was always about personal power. For Bernie Sanders, “The Amendment King”, it was always about getting his ideas into law. That’s what really counts, and nobody knows that better than Senator Sanders.

If you doubt my analysis, then ask yourself which alternative Bernie Sanders would choose if he could; to be a helpless President beholden to a deadlocked Congress, or the ideological father of a new Social Democratic majority in Congress, albeit presided over by an effectively helpless Crypto-Neoliberal Executive?

Follow Bernie Sanders carefully! There are many more surprise yet in store!
